Albion's young Irish hotshot Aaron Connolly is, of course, garnering an increasing amount of attention following his streak of scoring goals not just for the U-23s but at international level for the Republic of Ireland U-17s (for whom he is the leading scorer - with 7 goals - for the two stages of qualification thus far). Even the Argus has woken up and realised that Albion actually have an academy with young players who deserve a bit of coverage - Aaron Connolly leads the UEFA goal chart - after putting football before hurling
The ROI U-17s have qualified for the 16-team Finals that commence in Croatia on May 3rd. England U-17s commenced their 3-game Elite qualification stage in Bosnia and Herzegovina today with a 5-3 victory over the Czech Republic. Albion 1st year scholar goalkeeper Tom McGill played in goal. England face Slovenia on Saturday with the final match taking place against the hosts next Tuesday.
The ROI U-19s also start their Elite qualification stage (for the Finals that commence in Georgia on July 2nd) today when they face Italy in Belgium later this evening. In a tough group they will also play Sweden on Saturday and the hosts next Tuesday. Albion's Jayson Molumby and Danny Mandroiu are in the squad and will be hoping to play a full part.
At England U-21 level, Solly March and Christian Walton are in the squad for two friendly matches, the first in Germany tomorrow and the second in Denmark on Monday.
Henrik Bjordal (now on loan at IFK Gothenburg, of course) is in the Norwegian U-21 squad that plays two friendlies over the next few days, the first in Portugal tomorrow and the second against Russia in Marbella next Tuesday.
Just for completeness sake, Albion's on-loan Chelsea prospect Fikayo Tomori is in the England U-20 squad taking part in a friendly tournament in Brittany. However, he wasn't included in the starting line-up or on the bench for today's game against Portugal (England currently lead 2-1). Further matches follow on Saturday against France and next Tuesday against Senegal.
