I Knew the guy years back at the start of his airline. He is beyond doubt one of the biggest ********s I've dealt with. I knew him over a few years nothing changed that perception. A "hands wandering" stomach churning tosser. He tried to perceive he was from a poor background but was silver spooned into slum landlordship by his father. Odious shite.

EDS? You poor sod. I was there when Dick Brown (yes everyone else, that was what he was called) was running it in to the ground. Not for long though.
I've seen private companies waste spectacular amounts of money on IT and consultancy but you are correct in that this example dwarfs the scale of most other failed projects!
Ah good old Dick Brown - I'd forgotten about him. An utter crook that made corrupt deals which eventually killed the company. Allegedly he's the person that came up with the herding cats advert idea !

Indeed. But one of the major downsides of privatisation is that the experts who used to work in the public sector now no longer do so. Having a degree from Oxford or Cambridge is not enough, but it's the basis on which government agencies now recruit their senior staff. What we, the public, get is a level of public sector incompetence that more or less guarantees that contract management will go wrong.
