Maybe they knew it was their coach? Maybe they thought they were making it look better, like most graffiti 'artists'.

Maybe... But highly doubtful. The article says it was parked in a hotel that usually away teams stay at & there was no reason for them to think their club would get a coach to a home game - don't think that happens often...
