I think they've found something like a 1000 or so planets orbiting in the so called habitable zones of their star or stars in the last year alone. Could be the sheer volume of discoveries that is the excitement around the announcement.

My hunch is NASA have to come up with something in an attempt to justify their funding to Trump and his looney friends who instead want to spend the money on warships, new nuke's and a pointless wall.
