Jesus. Part of the team I first watched at the Goldstone. Shocking. His poor family.

    RIP Super Paul McCarthy.

I was saddened to hear this horrible news yesterday evening and although I didn't know him, he was always very friendly and approachable when I was out and about in the town.

Devastated for his wife and daughters.

      RIP Paul.

My friend wrote to him to say I was a poorly child and that he was my favourite player - only the latter of which was true, as I was around 19 and in good health. He sent me a signed photo and birthday card. I used to wear that photo around a chain for matches for luck. Sadly, the photo was lost in some post-match drink-up a few years later, and now we've lost the legend himself. RIP super Paul. Very sad tidings indeed.

Popular with the support, by all accounts a decent fellow, and a bright light during a gloomy era for the club. Extremely sorry to hear this.

He played in my first ever Brighton game. I always thought he was an excellent defender,

I recall we got a decent fee for him at a time when we were desperate for cash.

      RIP Paul,
