I accept that Kayal lined up with Stephens when we played 4-4-2 which we dont now. So he couldnt do it now that is play alongside of Stephens. As regards Dicker I think that he would have got nosebleed had he gone over the halfway line.

How do you feel the role of the central two has changed, just because the top two are now split, with one of them closer to the midfielders? If you don’t rate Kayal, fair enough, but to suggest that he could play the role before, but somehow isn’t able to play the ‘new’ role, is nonsense. Convince me otherwise.

And you’re wrong about Dicker’s position under Gus too. He wasn’t a holding or remotely defensive midfielder. When he was central, he was the more advanced, with Bridgett and / or Navarro behind him, though more often he was on the left in Gus’ unusual lopsided midfield, with Buckley wide right, and Dicker left (but not as a winger)

It’s like you don’t even watch the game.

I think that you are mixing me up with yourself as regards watching the game.. I have used X to show how we line up now so that you understand rather rthan use players names.

X

X..X..X..X
..X(a)..
X....X(b).....X
X
X

The midfield 4 are virtually a line but (a) is just behind (b) but only a couple of yards not as pronounced as it seems on my layout.

That's my recollection too. A quality League One player, his complete lack of pace and strength was a drawback in the Championship.

Yes agree, really liked him, didn’t he score a dipping volley in Gus’s first season at Withdean?

Also glad to see him doing well.

Blimey. We're risking a paradox in the space-time continuum here. Someone too thick to know what they're on about explaining to those to thick to understand. Could get messy.

Your source? Bearing in mind your history on this is pretty shabby.

No, that was Liam Bridcutt.

In the season we missed out on promotion, Kayal played alongside Stephens as part of a pairing, so Kayal alongside Propper was his (BK's) perfectly natural role. He also won Player of the Season playing in that role. Bissouma, on the other hand, has largely taken the place of Gross for the time being.

We have that cover for Dale Stephens. His name is Beram Kayal, an international footballer, and someone who was clearly good enough to make the move from the SPL to England.

Aside from that, outstanding analysis.

I think you two need to have some respect for your elders or does it make you feel to constantly have a pop at BG.

Pathetic.

I can't talk for them (obviously) but for me, respect is earned - not given automatically, and if someone is being a spanner then they should be called out on it - once, or a thousand times.

An accurate recollection of Poyet's midfields. Navarro or Bridcutt were specialist defensive midfielders, normally just the one played, in the Makelele/Kante type role protecting the central defenders.

Dicker was a passing creative CM, very effective in League One.

Dont worry about it as I treat both of them as know all but know nothing about football and they just try to bully people into submission which doesnt work with me,. What most people forget is that this is a discussion forum and if we were all 100% correct we would have CH job but it is good to have opinions.

That League One team/squad, for the 18 months under Poyet, was quality throughout. Teams didn't know how to handle our, unique at the time for the lower leagues, possession based football.

Even El Abd became a bloody good defender and decent with the ball.

This is a board for opinions but why people feel the need to bang in on the same individuals constantly is just so weak, it's almost as if they had a bad day, 'right BG gets it tonight' or ABC gets it like I said it's pathetic and teenager like.

I respect BG even if I don't agree with all he says, but to be fair he looks at things in a different way and who to say he is always wrong?

I can honestly say he has never offended me with any of his posts, but when you see mature men always looking to give him a slap it's pathetic.

Would he be an improvement on Kayal here again with the slow build up that we use now. and rely on the wide men for the sudden break.

Going back to the post that has caused so much grief...its hard to take it seriously ..firstly because you have consistently slagged off Kayal to the point where it seems a cardboard cut out would be more effective and secondly because I think your memory of GD isn't one I have...I quite liked/respected the player but in the Championship he had the odd good game, but wasn't up to the pace of the game...he'd be murdered in the PL........imho

Lastly enjoy the game tomorrow night

It was not intended as nor is it a pop at Kayal because he CANNOT play the role that Stephens does so it was a serious question asking if Gary Dicker could, the simple answer is Yes or No either way we need to bring in somebody who can . Whether or not Kayal can cover Gross, Bissouma or Propper in the position that they play is totally irrelevant. My question was would he be better than Kayal so a logical question to ask.

holy shimozzle! even by your standards, absolutely top fuggin drawer! you've exceeded my expectations; ... again!
and then take offence! SUPERB!

I know you can take in BG, but it's a bit sick seeing it go on all the time.

Keep up the good work BG i enjoy your post and agree with a good percentage.

I do agree with you to an extent, but don't tar everyone with the same brush. Much of it is jokey which BensGrandad takes on the chin, for example, about his perceived love for Tottenham. All light hearted, no offence intended or taken from what I see.

Other times it borders on low-level internet bullying. I sometimes feel sorry for him, posting his opinions from north Sussex in good faith, which are immediately destroyed in quite a caustic manner.

Kayal isn't all that though, he may just about play Premier league football when when we cram all 11 of our players in our half, as soon as we are stretched he championship at best.

I know what your saying, i just feel that maybe this should be moderated more, because if it was a boxing match they would atleast dock points for a low punch or a stray elbow.

BG i am sure can handle himself but not everyone would be able to put up with it.

I agree, a few people just LOVE to jump all over BG’s posts, if he bothers them so much just ignore him rather than constantly snipe at him, it’s so regular from them it gets a little cringy in the end !

Nice to see that you're looking out for him. It would've been easier to go with the herd.
