As a very old drivers i'm with you but my kids having just passed the driving test in the last few years were taught that during the mirror signal maneuver if there was no traffic to see the signal then they should not signal as part of the driving test they would be marked down for doing so as it should a lack of awareness of the conditions around them !
I believe itscrazy but that the way there taught these days.
