Because it's available. It's the ITN pick for this weekend i.e. Football League Tonight's weekly OB game... which means it has to be beamed back live. Which means anyone who wants to can get across it and, presumably, pay a small amount for the privilege to offset the cost of coverage and fill hours. Everyone's a winner.

If a fan is prepared to go all the way to Barnsley, I think it's very unlikely that they'll be put off by finding out 2 days in advance that they can watch it on the internet somewhere on a probably unreliable website and a tiny screen.. or on German TV.

5855 miles makes this difficult for me.

Edit: That was as the crow flies. I factored in the distance between airports and my start point and Oakwell (slow work day). New adjusted figure is 6155 miles.

Can someone explain in words of one syllable, how to get the streamed games. I have dabbled a couple of times but chickened out when I get to the point of having to give credit card details to a shadowy company I have never heard of.

I'm a techno-idiot, and it's pretty easy. Don't ever click on anything requesting credit card details. Just ignore such requests.
Have a look on this thread, where links will be posted. Some will work for your configuration, some won't. There will be no end of adverts flogging porn and gambling: you need to click on the (most prominent) 'x', and get rid of them all those unwanted pop-ups, and you should be left with a stream of the game.
