If you think Corbyn really wants to create a socialist Republic in 2017 you must have swallowed the old Tory propaganda hook, line and sinker! We would NEVER turn in to Cuba or similar.

Of course Corbyn wants a socialist republic. He's campaigned for this all his life. What part of him continually professing his socialist principles and beliefs have you missed? It's fair enough too, I'm not saying he's a crack pot for wishing that but you're right that the UK will never be like that because it will always be a minority view. It certainly isn't Tory propaganda to say that Corbyn wants a fully socialist UK. It's a fact.

Way to go Jezza... perfect for stifling aspiration and attracting or retaining the best talent.

I think it's only fair that everyone has their aspirations stifled, I'm fed up with it always being me.

And a good way to attract decent people who value fairness over greed!

50k top salary and a cap on house prices:moo:

:hilton::hilton::hilton::hilton::hilton::hilton::hilton::hilton::hilton::moo::hilton::hilton::hilton::hilton::hilton::hilton::hilton::hilton::hilton:

And a great way to see the nations best minds and skills lured overseas by other nations and businesses willing to pay them their worth in a field or industry.

It's like a dumbing down of a nation.

Agreed, in principal. The problem though is that if you are never in power whatever he thinks is completely irrelevant. Being a politician is about getting things done. Blair learnt that you can have principles but if you are always in opposition whats the point. Corbyn will never rule and get anything he wants because he isn't willing to play the game to get into power. Very foolish.

I believe there is a prize for getting the words 'Blair' and 'principles ' in the same sentence.

Another idea that will never work. FFS. You can't cap wages, just like you can't cap house prices.

Ugh. Of course it's unfair, it's unfair EVERYWHERE. A salary cap won't change that, and even if you close every loophole there is, the businesses will just move their operating office, if there is that much at stake.

I'd like to know how much the mega-rich provide in tax income versus the simply 'rich'. I'd imagine the real impact will be on well-off high earners, making some assumptions about the level of the cap. House prices ultimately will crash or stagnate for decades, and if there is one thing the voting majority don't like it's anything that impacts their house value. Which is why so many daft policies on housing exist (to keep the current majority of voters happy, rather than truly help out people struggling to get on the ladder).

As mentioned above, the issue isn't the tiny proportion of people earning mega bucks, it's the support and burden on the people at the other end. A decade of stagnation and no earnings growth, whilst costs increase has done more for the inequality than anything else. No end in sight in my opinion.

I am reading many posts on this thread that are saying that it is very refreshing to have a principal politician. Jeremy Corbyn is the man who sat on the floor of a half empty train and was filmed complain that the trains were so poorly run and need to go back into public ownership. He will lie like the rest of them.

I don't find him refreshing at all. All empty proposals that have absolutely no way of getting off the ground. Same as all of them really. Just got to look at their twitter feeds, they love being popular but when asked real questions none of them give a proper answer. Personally I try my best to honestly ignore what any of them say anymore. Wish I could get a job on 60k for waffling.

Exactly this, the man enjoys sniping from the sidelines whilst never having to take responsibility for anything. It is easier to be a protester rather than a doer.

I assume you are probably right - he'll seemingly always value his principles above his ambitions. Quite a refreshing change from the rest of them, don't you think?
No he doesn't , if he did he'd admit his support for the IRA.

When I worked at a well known UK charity a few years back the Chief Exec could not earn more than 3 times the lowest paid full time employee, which might seem quite radical but is a whole lot more progressive than the casino gambling industry, sorry I mean the City (where I confess I've also worked), where stupid sums are paid to children (& others!) for meaningless activities that contribute little to society. Needless to say the charity was a much better working environment.

I have to admire your blind optimism that the super rich you seem to revere actually pay all the taxes they should pay, just like most of the rest of us!

House prices ultimately will crash or stagnate for decades.

Quote me a realistic timeframe on 'ultimately'?

This is possibly the most Supply/Demand based market ever seen as for all its faults much of the World wants to live in the UK (and in particular the SE Corner in and around London), the only way house prices will 'crash' is if the population of the UK goes into steep decline over the next 10-20 years and there is no indication of that at present...

Let's get a few facts straight those in power want to keep the status quo

Britain’s richest the top 10% now own almost half of the country’s £11.1tn total private wealth this 10% had seen a 21% increase in their wealth over the past two years

The poorest 1%, meanwhile, owned just 0.05% of wealth

Tax evasion v benefit fraud NAO reported year 2014/2015 unpaid taxes amounted to £34 billion while benefit fraud amounted to £1.4 billion

HMRC employees 700 staff directly to investigate tax fraud of the top 10%
DWP employees 26,000 staff directly to investigate benefit fraud

Changing the way we look at wealth and its distribution, how we view paying tax and the benefits Iit brings, capping wages and a national wage would be a start

The other big issue is housing being a supply and demand issue again those that own property some to rent want to keep the status quo, but we need to build more homes a million more the largest cost in any new buildings is the land which account for 70% of total build costs! here again we need to look at the top 10% who own a third of all the land if just 1% of this land was given back to the nation for housing coupled with a national house building plan of the type seen just after the war this would put a cap on house prices
