I dont think Cairney would cost anything like £10m. If we were willing to offer the same as we did for Pritchard I think we would be in business

He's the best player of his type in the entire football league IMO, and has 2.5 years of his contract left to run. £10m would be needed to even start talking.

In the summer window yes, but in this one and with Fulham still harbouring play-off hopes I'll expect it'll take a eight figure fee to get him. Anyhow think most will agree that the midfield options we currently have are strong enough for the remaining of the season, any money that is available should be funneled towards obtaining competition / cover for Baldock.

I think you're mistaking where Cairney plays? He absolutely WOULD be competition for Baldock. He'd play the role differently to SB (more creative but less mobile), but that's whose place he'd be fighting for.

Fulham won't let him go in January anyway, they are in with a strong shout for the play offs so will be keeping him.

Sadly, this is almost certainly the truth. They are as likely to sell Cairney this window, as we are Dunk and Knockaert.

Leyton, E10.
At the end of the game we walked over to CH and had a friendly word. The same type of friendly word Dyche had with Stephens after our game at the end of last season.

I think it's on, albeit in the summer.

Aluko in the PL behave can't shoot to save himself and got burned by our Bong for pace.

Really? In the home game he really gave Bong a tough time and was very impressive. Didn't do much yesterday but other Fulham games I've seen he's looked quality.

Some people on here really need to get over their small club mentality...

Anyway, great player, and may I suggest that if we want him, then we could get him, although admittedly at a high price...

It's not really 'small club mentality' to suggest that to prise him away from a playoff contender would be difficult. Nor would it be to suggest that if there's interest from Newcastle,Norwich etc it will be difficult for us to compete, if money alone is his motivation. We all know what happened last time.

We must be one of the most attractive propositions outside of the PL, nobody is disputing that.

In case you haven't noticed, we are top of the league. Fulham aren't.

I'd say he's not comparible to Kayal - more to Stephebs as a ball playing midfielder. I'd also suggest that it won't happen now BUT if we were to go up and Fulham stay down... He'd be top of my list for a midfielder that is a realistic target. Imagine him Kayal and Stephens in a midfield 3 - wow. I'd also go for their right back Fredricks (Bruno is getting on obviously) and also Aluko as another wing/attacking option - I am dreaming though of course. Every respect for Fulham and all that...

Fredericks: a young player with talent, who has every chance of raising his level to the Premier League at some stage. Fine. Aluko? Older, has fannied around the Championship and Monkey Tennis League for years, occasionally impressing, but with little end product, and far, far too many sub standard performances to ever make it.

Not for me, Clive.

He's impressed me when I've seen him. Gave Bong a torrid time at the Amex - great movement and pace on the ball.

So it's only this site that says they want £20m, everyone else say they are sniffing around for £10m. (Not saying it's wrong just can't see any other reports)
and a Newcastle transfer site on twitter it could all be crap tho

Understandable if they think they still have a decent crack at making the playoffs.

Would guess that might drop in the summer though if they don't make it.

It pleases me to see Newcastle's ability to outbid everybody else in this division is falling on it's arse.

They have the biggest support, and the biggest and most expensive squad in the division. They also have a Champions League winning manager whose last job was Real fking Madrid. If they can't finish top two without bidding yet another £10-12m+ for a play-off contender's best player, it doesn't say an awful lot for them really.

I was speaking to a Fulham fan on the way back from CC, and he indicated that he was unsure whether they'd be able to hold on to Cairney in the summer. Would be a great signing if we make it, but let me offer you Gylfi Siggurdson as a superior option.
