As someone who had a problem in the past and went ga, can I say what your saying sounds like denial or just does not make sense. At first you say you don't do gambling then say your hooked up on the slots, someone mentions the fixed odds thing and you say you were at home. You must have either logged on and opened an account and put a thousand pound credit or something into it no one would do that on the spur of the moment it does not make sense. I think you maybe in denial fella. You can never win on them and sometimes the worse thing to happen is to win. Lose and walk away fella is the best advice I heard many terrible stories at ga and although I only lost about 10k over a year. That was eight years ago it's gone (10k) I'm alive I still have a wife and now a daughter all because I realized if I carried on I would be at best watching a black and white tv on a milk crate in a bedsit somewhere...

Working in one I did the same, especially on big horse racing weeks with all the 'tips' I got. Saw a lot of people never drag themselves out of the pit, it's a bloody blessing people like us can lol.
It's high time betting firms were severely curtailed. It is terrible how they have crept into mainstream sport to the extent that they now dominate football sponsorship and sports TV advertising.
But it's hard to know how best to do that without curtailing genuine fun for most. Surely something needs to be done though, it is just too easy to lose massive amounts of money. I certainly wonder whether betting by credit card should be outlawed...

I recently changed from Tevo in my old place to regular TV in new place. I don't miss Tevo except for the ability to forward through ads. So, recently I have seen my first ads in about 2 years, The proliferation of gambling adverts is unbelievable. Every ad break there is a gambling ad and after about 10pm that is ALL there is. Ridiculous.

I can totally understand why people get addicted, you are just chasing your money. It isn't until you realise you can't win that you take a step back and thing "what the f**k". I will never, ever go near a slot machine again, it is so easy nowadays from the comfort of your seat.
True ,that there is too much TV advertising for betting in general, but the issue on this thread , concerns the main culprit of problem gambling.
FOBTs, or Poker, Fruit, Roullete , etc, MACHINES ,that are a cash cow for the corporates, and the reason that they open as many shops as they can ,under the banner of "Leisure Industry", but are in fact Misery Makers, the amount a person can gamble is hideous, and they only people who are able to use these machines "Sensibly" are money launderers ,
These machines need to die , and the high street bookmakers need to start laying proper bets on sports events instead ,...

Of course you can stop whenever you want, nobody forces you to carry on. But that isn't what people that play FOBT's do (have a bit of previous)
I think the return is actually better than 90pc, on roulette anyway, as I think they use the standard casino rules with a single zero, which means the return is just over 97pc. The key point, though, is that the margin is fixed. It cannot be tweaked, changed or attacked in any way at all. Gaming machines grind away for as long as they are plugged in, taking just over 2pc of everything that goes through them.
Roulette has been cleaning people out, a little bit at a time, in casinos for more than 200 years. The difference in the last decade or so is that bookmakers - who traditionally were involved in betting rather than gaming - have been allowed to get in on the act too, and gaming has come out of the casinos and onto the high street. It has destroyed lives up and down the country, in the most economically deprived areas in particular, as they tend to have high population density and that means a FOBT is more likely to have someone standing in front of it at any given moment of the day.

Think of what else you could have done with the money, that is a preventative.
Back in the day when they used to be 'one armed bandits', I would often put my change in them after buying a round of drinks.
Then they took the arm away and added more lights and flashing buttons, that scared me off.
