Anyone been to pike and pine yet??got a chance of going in a couple of weeks, but heard mixed reviews from friends

9/10 a must visit if in the area

Noted, off to Correlejo in July, all inclusive but will venture out a few times (but not for pizza)

10k ? Ewww. No thanks. 80k with regular cake stops much preferred. It's acceptable to walk uphill, and no-one asks you your time.

I've got 10 days all inclusive and then a full-board 14 night cruise within 2 months. Evens on a 10kg handicap for my first race back after that [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Still on your holibobs then Beachy. Was the Wham fan in there or was the lack of all you can eat ice-cream a turn off for her and her school?

No but Dylan managed 7 sausages this morning which I believe was visit 1 to the breakfast buffet but Amber more restrained just two pancakes.

Taking the thread back on track from [MENTION=38]Beach Hut[/MENTION]'s Holiday Report, went to the Buenos Aires Restaurant in Horsham last night. This appears to be a small chain across the home counties specialising in Argentinian steaks.

There was a good atmosphere in the restaurant and we were seated quickly. It then took a while for the server to come back an take our food and drink order together. We shared a starter of Chorizo in Malbec with caramelised onion and crostini. The Malbec sauce was really nice but didn't really go with the chorizo as it overpowered the sausage.

The main courses were very good. I had the rib-eye steak which was perfectly cooked and melted in the mouth. I chose a Malbec sauce to go with this which was very tasty but came as a Malbec 'cream' rather than the thick and punchy sauce I expected. Mrs DCH had the pork belly in BBQ sauce which was huge, very well cooked and served with a sweet BBQ sauce which made a nice change to the overly smoky sauces most places knock out.

Puddings were hit and miss. I had very nice (but expensive) dulche de leche pancakes with ice cream, Mrs DCH had a cheesecake which was nice but needed some cream or ice cream.

The service was a bit slow overall. The bill was a little annoying as Mrs DCH had a glass of wine and we had a £1 'open bottle' charge added. I was also charge £1 extra to have sweet potato fries with my steak even though they are the same price on the sides menu. They also add 10% service charge as standard which annoys a lot of people.

I would go back again for the meat alone 7.5/10

Nandos is very quick even when busy I find. Next time have the thighs and a halloumi side.

Finally got to The Hearth in Lewes on Saturday for a bite to eat.

The Hearth is a bakery/pizzeria next to the bus station. Firstly, the decor is great and the music seemed to be strictly reggae and dub which was nice.

We started with homemade meatballs (great tomato sauce with these) and also had turkish flatbread and some garlic bread with cheese. Everything obviously from scratch on premises, even the flour is responsibly milled (locally grown, heritage too) and you can really tell. The Neopolitan pizzas with sourdough bases were as good as anywhere in Brighton, though Fatto a Mano MIGHT just shade them. All puddings were simple yet tasty, including tiramisu, treacle tart and affo gatos. Decent bottle of Picpoul on the wine list as well as a load of beers, mostly Harveys of course.

Recommended.

Hey I live just down the road, and didn't even realise that restaurant was there. I quite like the sound of it and will probably give it a try soon.

Rather like you though, I easily get irritated with these little extra unforseen 'additions' to the bill, and as for adding a 10% service charge to just say, a table for two, that's taking things too far.

I finally made it to Isaac last week and had the best meal that I have ever had in Brighton and one of the best that I have had for a very long time. I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant, the enthusiasm of the staff but most of all the the simplicity yet absolute precision of the cooking. By simplicity, I don't mean that what was produced was easy to do but that no dish was over-elaborated and the flavours of each dish were perfectly judged.

This completed my tour of the trio of 64 Degrees, The Set and Isaacs and it has been interesting to look back through this thread and see that different posters have very different views on each of these.

I have been to 64 Degrees most often and always really enjoyed it but have felt recently that they are getting a bit formulaic, particularly in the need to put "something crunchy" on every dish - last time it was whey powder which seemed to be there entirely for textural reasons; I was disappointed at The Set - felt they were trying a bit too hard to impress without quite having the technical expertise or the palate. With Issac, I felt that they were in complete control of the cooking and had a great understanding of the balance of each dish - it wasn't whizz-bang molecular tossery for the sake of it (although there was good use of some current techniques), just delicious food.

I even didn't mind the narrowness of the wine list although I think next time I go, I will have a bottle of sparkling and a glass of red rather than trying the full range of wines by the glass.

I will be back...

Lunch at Marrocco's yesterday for my mum's birthday. Six of us including two elderly & two children.

I've always loved the food here and that didn't disappoint. Having done Worthing 10k in the morning I had the fritto misto. A big pile of protein with their excellent tartar sauce really hit the spot as did the picpul. Kids loved their kids menu & my mums crab spaghetti was apparently "superb".

Ice creams all round for pudding, naturally. Excellent atmosphere and friendly service.

Downsides? Took for ever to take our orders and boy have they bumped up their prices. It's good, honest Italian & family favourite ice cream, not a one star gastro pub.

We'll be back because it suits us as a family but one down side of the food revolution is that the inexpensive local is dying a death.

Interesting views. Have you been to Etch yet? I thought it was miles better than Isaacs.
It's a similar set menu concept so very comparable. The food here really was outstanding.highlights were the duck, the apple panacotta but most of all the trout carpaccio, with fried cockles and I kid you not cockle ice cream.

All served in a very relaxed atmosphere with Steven Edwards wandering around and having a completely informal chat at your table. We opted out of the wine flight option (not a fan) and had a decent bottle of Reisling, plus a glass of red. All this with pre dinner drinks and a couple of espresso martinis to finish cost £200 for two of us. Not cheap but certainly good value.

Possibly the best meal I've ever had in Brighton and Hove and I think they have raised the bar for 64 degrees, Isaac and the set etc.

Got a table booked in a couple of weeks time. Looking forward to it as had an amazing meal cooked by Matt Gillan when he was at The Pass at south lodge. Not heard anything about it myself - what were the mixed reviews?
