The Fatherland
There is a strange scent that pervades over much of the city. Not a great deal different from parts of Amsterdam.

They also sell those orange croquettes in Portugal?

Still in Brighton
Really enjoyed Lisbon with the gf, pleasantly cheap, especially eating out if you eat where the local workingclass eat (eg at Restaurant Super Mario, simple, cheap food). Also, some quirky museums like: the Tram Museum, the Electricity Museum and the pub filled with Action Man figures. 4 hour walking tour was superb also (run by students). Lovely city.

A really mad place is the Pavilhao Chines, which is like a bar inside a junk shop, full of cabinets of dinky toys. Utterly bonkers.

That's the place!

Off to Lisbon the end of the month, but just had an email from Friendly Rentals saying the apartment we booked (back in January) is now no longer available! They have offered another apartment but I am waiting for them to confirm no extra cost for the new one.

Can anyone recommend anywhere to stay, 8 adults.

And if you're young(ish) male you will be offered the scented product multiple times each day. As well as a variety of other substances.

Or in my case an oldish male. Massive piece of black. Drove through and stayed at the campsite back in March. Brilliant '60s architecture with tennis courts, '60's swimming pool in a London Zoo style. Great city.

Just back! What a great place. Went on a brilliant organised minibus trip,to Sintra, Cascais and Caba da Roca. Also found Schelotto's restaurant - bit of a trek, but worth it. The staff made a fuss of us and took a photo of me holding a Brighton shirt! They also advised me on which channel was showing the West Ham match and fortunately it was available in our hotel room! Result!

We have a villa on the silver coast near Obidos. Lovely part of the world, especially if your into golf or surfing.
Plenty of top quality golf courses around us, notably Praia Del Rey and the royal Obidos.
Praia is where the Portuguese team stay before tournaments and have meet Ronaldo there amongst others. Like others have said , it’s untouched by tourism and where the Portuguese take there holidays.

Yes, very pleasant. We weren't there for long, but I enjoyed it and ate nice ice-cream from Santini's.
Hubby and son went to watch football at Estoril. We saw the big casino there and were told it was the 'birthplace' of James Bond!

Ello,

Booked a week in Lisbon in May and now looking to flesh out plans. Going to do three nights in Lisbon then head to the beach somewhere. Advice on the beach bit wold be helpful, currently looking at just along in Cascais.

Cheers!

Hire a Tuk Tuk and get him to show you the back streets and sights of Lisbon, he should take you to places tourist never see.

Sintra is bonkersly amazing, but gets very busy and touristy, so get there v. early.

And be really careful to only swim within designated flagged swimming areas, I speak from bitter experience...

Had breakfast in Sintra a few weeks ago but then left because we couldn’t cope with the number of people. Made mistake of going on a Sunday.

Interesting, we are looked by to buy a place near Obidos, with a view to spending about 5 months a year out there, to extend the summer. Any particular things we should be aware of / look out for?

I can’t really advise on other areas around there as we spend very little time out there due to work commitments, but when we go it’s absolute chill out due to the location,
Our place is at Perola da Lagoa , which translated is Pearl of the lagoon. It’s right on the nature reserve/ lagoon and backs onto the Royal Obidos golf course. It’s I between Peniche, which is a lovely fishing village ( great fish restaurants) and Nazare, which I think holds the record for the highest surfed wave.
Caldas da Rainha is the nearest town for shopping , hospital etc which is about a 10 mile drive, then of course the walled castle of Obidos, which is very picturesque and has great restaurants.
When are you looking to buy? As I say we spend very little time out there now and are thinking of selling in the near future.

I am negotiating with work at the moment to let me work part of year from there. Mrs B has MS and vitamin D is important. PM me the details of you like. . . You never know!
