I'm not sure how much Andrew Ridgeley contributed to Wham, but fair play, he made a lot of money as well.

Only saying what I was told in the early 80s.perhaps it was those lessons that set them on the road to playing., Also a chap who played in our pub in Guildford told me that Paul Wellers dad asked him to teach Paul to play the guitar in Woking Conservative Club and as he said he has far exceeded Nicky now.
Nope. They could both play before Wham. George didn't write all those songs without being able to play an instrument

I was told some 30 years ago that when Wham went on their first tour of Japan they were refused a visa as they put their occupation as musicians rather than singers and neither him nor Andrew Ridgley could play the guitar so they hurriedly had to have lessons from Bert Weedon on how to play 4 cords so as to qualify. They did this and got their visa. I dont know how true it is but the person who told me had nothing to gain as he was a club owner in Leicester Sq. and knew them both very well.
Well I'm no fan of George Michael but recognise his craft and talent. Many top musicians can barely read music, but doesn't prelude them from being brilliant song writers.

George Michael could apparently play many instruments so I'd imagine your mate was wrong.

I've always believed real musical ability is actually genetic. Some musicians formalise it with training and learn an instrument, but that doesn't stop others who haven't.

Met him and Andrew before they were famous. As a DJ I was playing Wham Rap (their first single) to death and they happened to pop in to my venue in Brighton in '82. The record was a flop and that could easily have been the end of their journey. Second single, Young Guns, was a smash and was followed up by Wham Rap.
Mmmm, I loved their dance protest singles. Was 'Wham Rap!' the first U.K. hip-hop record?

Not sure if I have ressurected a thread from page three before but here goes......

In concert from Paris 2012 on BBC1 now. In some ways a little dull as mostly his newer stuff, but by god could that man write and sing. I only wish I was half as cool, but happy I am a lot less dead. Ciao George.
