Trainers now permitted in 1901 but not in DINNING areas

Maybe they should photograph everyones footwear that enters the 1901 lounge and run a vote on who has the best fashion sense in casual footwear.
I worry where this relaxation will end though. Before you know it 1901ers could look like regular football supporters.

I agree that the rules & regs re 'suitable footwear' are crass, yet I absolutely adhere to the no shorts or flip-flops ruling.

Having given this some further thought I am intrigued to picture the meeting:

Other 1901 Man "Yeh, its' a football match, not the bloody opera"
1901 Man "But we can't admit that it was stupid all along though can we"

Someone "Easy, blame the evolving fashion in casual footwear that has clearly happened in the last five years"

I think that's basically EXACTLY what has happened.
Amex season 1. 1901 lounge.
Punters: "Can we wear trainers please?"
Club suits: "No. Absolutely not"
Punters: "Shame. Why not, out of interest?"
Club suits: "Inappropriate, for the 'environment'" [and bearing in mind the truly corporate scenario that the club had envisaged, they probably had a point]
However, as things panned out, it became very obvious that the majority of 1901 members were / are NOT corporate beasts at all, but simply reasonably well-off normal fans, treating themselves. And so...
Season two:
Punters: "Can we wear trainers please?"
Club suits: "No. Absolutely not"
Season three:
Punters: "Can we wear trainers please?"
Club suits: "No. Absolutely not"
Season four:
Punters: "Can we wear trainers please?"
Club suits: "No. Absolutely not"
Season five:
Punters: "Can we wear trainers please?"
Club suits: "No. Absolutely not"

And as you say, they couldn't then turn round and say it was a stupid rule all along, so along comes this daft suggestion that a seismic shift in societal attitudes to casual footwear has prompted the change.
