Road Hauliers reckon this will cause a drop in their trade, along with red-tape, delays at ports and other cost increases will cost their industry jobs. Project fear. They need to get over it, they won! Brexit means Brexit! Where’s the job centre?

So are we going to zero tarriff all imports and not protect out own industries?

one of the great contradictions of brexit. if we dont apply tariffs, we benefit from all that cheaper world produce but dont protect home industries. if we apply tariffs, dont get much benefit but protect industries. pro-leave won support of both sides of this, those wanting protection (from EU) and those wanting free trade. on balance, if we remove tariffs the general public will see some benefit (and remove the costs), at the expense of some industries.

a HGV driver friend reckons its beneficial. apart from more work for local drivers, more goods doing load-on load-off at non-Kent ports, which are preferred jobs. but also fewer runs to continent for porn. swings and roundabouts.

If would be pretty dumb because it is not reciprocal

For example we drop tariffs on EU imports to zero they are under no obligation to do the same in return. Plus under WTO rules we have to offer the same zero tariffs to rest of the world.

So not much incentive for anyone to do a trade deal with us if they already have access to our market without tariffs

I think half the Conservative party don't really understand how basic international trade functions, they are slowly learning.

we always hear more from those that will be negative affected or want some help. case of some haulage businesses will suffer from costs associated with handling tariffs and customs, while the drivers not so much. stuff still needs to be moved. the local work as i say is other UK ports, so rather than runs from the Midlands to Rhineland couple of overnights each week, get runs from Midlands to Grimsby or Felxistowe and home in time for tea and crumpet. if the rolling loads through Dover becomes expensive and time consuming, a lot of non-time dependent loads will get routed through container ports, or unaccompanied trailers for pallet loads. of course the hauliers have been left hanging like so many others, we were discussing the alternatives couple of years ago, but they thought a deal would be done and haven't been able to adjust.

Aaaaand they're back, bright and early Monday morning ... best tell your Brussels handlers that the campaign ended in 2016 chaps and trying to pass off Pro Remain campaign material as a Government/Leave manifesto isn't too clever when complaining about misinformation/lying.

I agree that the Title, "The Governments Brexit Contract with the British People" could mislead some people into thinking it was Government published, however, whats on the list that had not been promised by Vote Leave or this Government?

none of which we can agree with EU.

We cant currently come to an agreement, but the EU themselves have come to agreement on such issues with other Non-EU third countries, Canada trade deal, Vietnam FTA, Japan EPA. And countries elsewhere, with no EU involvement at all, do come to agreement on these issues in their trade agreements. This is not an alien concept to have agreement on these topics.

I agree that the Title, "The Governments Brexit Contract with the British People" could mislead some people into thinking it was Government published, however, whats on the list that had not been promised by Vote Leave or this Government?

The leader of vote leave and most of it's supporters are in the cabinet and still trumpet the same nonsense. They'd rather save face and lie than be honest

We did til recently, we even were in a position to formulate and refine the rules of trade. Now, we have been trying to reduce standards and rules but try to keep the best bits, and strangely, it's not going well.

The comments I am referring to are not from individual companies which will be affected but the Road Haulage Association ie the sector as a whole. They believe their sector will be impacted negatively. This is the same association and sector which voted to leave btw.

As an aside, what exactly is it which will magically appear on 1.1.2021 and which will need moving between “Midlands to Grimsby” and cover all the redundant drivers who were previously doing runs into Europe ?
