How about we send (encourage) them back into education, or send them towards apprenticeships or send them into retraining. No one you have mentioned should be a lost cause to give up on. Successive governments over decades have just abandoned those at the bottom of the pile in favour of the easier option of cheap labour from abroad. No wonder they feel abandoned when so called " socialists" like you are the latest to turn your snooty middle class noses up at them.

That wasn’t a question for you, the fair and non-discriminatory bit was a clue . And I’m working class.

My husband works in a factory with a production line. They employ a lot of Polish people, not because they are cheaper but because they are prepared to work. Production line wages are not very good, but they all get paid the same. British youngsters won't stick at it and leave after a few weeks.

Thats no excuse to give upon them and resign yourself to pushing them into a life on the dole going nowhere, and continue to get cheap labour from abroad because its easier. Thats the snooty middle class liberal way........it stinks.

It’s not cheaper though, as the poster pointed out it’s the same rate of pay.

Liberal way? Thought you said all governments have done this.. its nothing to to with being liberal. Its more to do with a lot of people in the UK have no intention of working, and want to blame other people for their misfortune.

Whose giving up on them? £39bn and 12% of public spending goes on education up to 16 years old alone. At some point though the individual needs to take responsibility for themselves, don't you think? It’s easy to think the world owes you something, but it doesn’t. There are jobs out there, make it happen. And the state will step in for those who can’t

While I voted remain and see a no deal Brexit as a potentially massive problem for Dover, Northern Ireland and trade and travel in general (with various possible economic consequences) one thing I do respect (but disagree with) is the Das Reich position that a no-deal brexit does not need to be justified because it is brexit and that's all that matters - a bit like the desire for a divorce at any price by someone suffering domestic abuse (albeit he doesn't have the language skills to express himself that eloquently). What beats me though is the folk who say a no deal Brexit is fine because it will give us lots of advantages without pain, and then when qustioned fail to explain how any of this will be achieved; as noted above by my fellow remainers. If you simply don't care what happens after Brexit then why not just say so? Its silly to pretend it will all be lovely when you have absolutely no clue  And the correct rebuttal to that isn't 'you don't have a clue either' - that's like saying to the bloke telling you not to drive your car when pissed because you might crash 'you don't know whether I'll survive or crash either'. You can only mount that argument if you know there is no risk. Anyway its worth keeping this thread rolling even if we keep going through the same 'motions'....it has almost become a potential resource for sociology/history/politics students, going forward. I wonder what they will make of us all???

Good post as ever HWT. The Das Reich position is fine but it’s only one Brexit option. The problem is many on here position it as the only true Brexit solution, which is factually incorrect. It’s an extreme view held by a minority and it’s dragging the country into a dangerous place. And agree on the advantages without pain, that scenario would have a very low probability applied to it

I said they all got paid the same but still you push your 'cheap labour' jibe. Firms don't give up on youngsters who walk out, it's the youngsters who give up. Maybe their parents should give them a kick up the backside and say stick at it.
The firm is willing to send youngsters to study at Crawley and get an HNC if they stick at it.

Waitrose has oranges, lemons, grapefruits, melons, bananas, pineapples, nectarines, grapes, mangoes, avocadoes and a better class of customer and service.

And there is a very good reason it's nickname is Wankerose.

It's very telling you've not replied to any responses on your posts laughing about old people dying or your lie about there being no community minded people in the UK. Please tell me you're not turning into Nibble mark II ?

When I shopped at Aldi yesterday, all the fruit and most of the veg was labelled as British produce, and 25% cheaper than Waitrose.

It's August. There is lots of fruit and veg in Britain at the moment as it's that time of year. In January we have to buy Dutch and Spanish tomatoes, as they don't grow in a British winter.

My point was more about productivity in work/GDP, not the items you listed. Apologies as I wasn’t clear. Not sure what your other point is about.

And the Heston Blumenthal Xmas range is always top draw; I wonder what “must have” item he’ll create this year?

Herr T mentioned “the lesser bright and lesser productive Brits”, its these particular people that were being discussed, your education figures are therefore irrelevant as the education system has by and large failed them. There needs to be something more to make these people be able to engage, the state stepping in and just giving up via a life on benefits, and business giving up by relying on cheap foreign labour is not good enough.( yes business has a duty to try harder in the communities they are based in as well)
I will never believe people are too far down the ladder to warrant leaving them on some sort of scrapheap. But this is what has happened for far too long, its widely prevalent thinking now amongst snooty middle class liberals who are completely out of touch and up their own arse of self importance (see people like lady Nugee), a whole new class of tossers that think they are better than others.

Cheap foreign labour is not a jibe it is a reality you need to wake up to.
Youngsters failing in the job market is still no excuse for society to give up…….but hey blame the parents, its their fault……..jesus christ, what planet do you live on?
