Looks like the Irish have successfully derailed an even slightly firm BREXIT. Even BREXIT itself.

Wrong. The term 'alignment' is not recognised in EU law, it's a fudge designed to move us on to the second phase which is the only way to come to an agreed NI/ Republic border solution.

what your suggesting is to protect Ireland and Northern Ireland, we stay close to single market and customs union, but not in the customs union. we'll be free to open our own trade with other countries. for some that would be sufficiently well baked outcome.

An 'all-Island' economy can only mean one thing. No border, no restrictions. Question is: How is that implemented and how does it affect the rest of the UK ?

How we avoid a 'hard' border but maintain the integrity of the UK is indeed a difficult problem which was only ever likely to be resolved once we knew what our future trade relationship would be .... watch this space.

Reality? We turn a blind eye. The EU turn a blind eye.......and the Irish just carry on doing whatever they want regardless. No change there, then..........

One saying that major economies have told the EU they don't expect the U.K. To get a better deal than them.
One saying that the understanding of alignment is very different between uk view and Ireland view.

BREXIT Good News !
Need some good news after yesterday.
I now believe that following the agreement of having no border between the EU and Britain, and Britain agreeing to stay in line with all EU rules and legislation, that the EU will agree a trade deal with us.
I can't believe all the accusations of moaning that are aimed at Remainers

David Davis said this morning this agreement isn't binding, but The Irish Government Chief Whip has just told RTE Radio it is in the eyes of the Irish Government.

I don't believe that the agreement is binding.
However, diverge on any single element or law (which we now won't have input into, let alone get out options) and we are back to last Thursday and the choice of where to put the hard border.
Of course the EU are now going to start the next round of negotiations on that basis and ensure we can't backtrack.
If A=B and B=C then A=C. It's not hard to understand.
Finish on a positive - We're OUT
However, diverge on any single element or law (which we now won't have input into, let alone get out options) and we are back to last Thursday and the choice of where to put the hard border.
Of course the EU are now going to start the next round of negotiations on that basis and ensure we can't backtrack.

Peter Bone seemed quite chipper on Sky News earlier, so I think WTO and a hard border is very much on. Just a question of where that border goes, but I doubt he's too bothered.
