It would be if any had been. It wasn't their country that they were putting first! They do worship the EU though (and almost certainly believe that those who disagree with them are thick racist peasants who live oop north, who need to be put in their place), and love any ways of getting themselves 15 minutes of fame.
It's a hollow victory, though. They haven't won an end to Brexit; all they've 'won' is hampering the Brexit negotiators so that potentially the Brexit deal we get is worse than the one we would have got had they not tied our negotiators' hands. So much for serving their country..........

Dominic Grieve was pretty adamant on Newsnight that the fixed leave date amendment will be dropped because the Government can't win a rebellion against it if it isn't.

I meant with regards to registering entry into the country, or their whereabouts etc. We do not do this for citizens of countries we have visa free entry for, which is why we can't do it to EU citizens, unless we do it for every foreign visitor.
In Spain for example, any EU citizen staying beyond 3 months has to register with the authorities and obtain a residence certificate, which requires you to prove you can support yourself financially and have healthcare insurance. This is no more than they ask of any other foreign visitor, all are required to register if staying beyond 3 months, which is why they can do it. For us, we have visa free travel for some nationalities of up to 6 months, so we could ask EU citizens staying beyond 6 months to register, we just can't ask them to register on arrival, unless we did the same for all other nations.
Does that make sense now?

I thought Brexit meant take back control? That's exactly what these MPs have done. Why should the party whips decide how each MP should vote? They represent their constituents, not the party.

The response from the Mail shows you the dangerous place them and the other Brexit Taliban have reached. How many of us would have believed 3 years ago that standing up for the principle that momentous decisions like this should be voted on in Parliament would be viewed as treason and treachery? Actually pretty scary but re-assuring that people are standing up for our democratic institutions.

Unbelievable isn't it? I wonder if Dacre is untouchable as editor there. Bad as it's always been, in recent years it does seem to have been pushing peak Mail even further into the nutosphere.

The argument that this is hampering negotiations assumes that we know what a good outcome of those negotiations looks like for the majority of people and we don't. The referendum results indicated what the majority of people wanted to end but not what the majority would want to replace it with; this simply says that the second questions should be put through some democratic process. Had the election given an overwhelming victory to May some would argue that this in some way provided an answer but it didn't. The dangerous message that comes across from the more extreme Brexiters is that anyone that voted remain was on the losing side and should therefore be excluded from have any say or representation in the democratic process where this issue is concerned, like a contestant being voted off 'I'm a celebrity'. This is not how democracy works.

How have they 'hampered' the negotiations ? We've already given away control over our (now non existent) borders. We've given away parliamentary sovereignty (and all the hard fought concessions of the last 45 years) and agreed to follow all EU rules and Regulations.

There's only the trade negotiations left. How's it going to hamper them :shrug:
