Angela Merkel says 'nein' to Theresa May's calls for early deal on rights of EU migrants and British ex-pats

Angela Merkel and Donald Tusk on Tuesday united to block Theresa May's attempt to fast-track a deal which would have created an amnesty for British ex-pats and EU migrants in the UK post-Brexit.

Mrs May had proposed that EU workers currently living in the UK be allowed to remain in exchange for an agreement which gives British expats in the European Union the same rights.

She had hoped to announce a deal within weeks but while more than 20 EU nations have signalled they are prepared to agree to a reciprocal arrangement, Mrs Merkel has rebuffed Mrs May's attempts to come to an agreement.

Her position was then backed by the president of the European Council, Mr Tusk...........

You seem to have a lack of understanding on EU and UK law, as EU Directives have to ratified and incorporated into UK law, so it is not a question of just making EU law UK law, it is looking at where EU law has been enacted into UK law over the last 40 odd years.
No, I'm fine on understanding, thanks. A bill to enshrine all the laws we have made since joining the EEC into UK law ha already been proposed by MPs. We can then cherry pick at leisure which bits we will choose to discard. That last part of the procedure may take time, but it won't hinder Brexit, or massively impinge on our daily lives.

Directive 2009/103/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 September 2009 relating to insurance against civil liability in respect of the use of motor vehicles, and the enforcement of the obligation to insure against such liability.

What are you going to do with this, given that it is embedded into the Road Traffic Act, 1988.
Very simple. We keep it, and if at some time in the future the government/parliament feels it needs to be changed, then we change it.

You'd better start recruiting sharpish for the various bodies and boards to uphold these laws then.

How does that work if we are as expected out of free movement and the EU removed the UK from all Directives.

Day 1 of being completely out you drive off the ferry in Calais and are immediately stopped by the French police and fined for not having the right documentation and put on the next ferry back.

Very simple indeed.

Douglas Carswell has quit UKIP... will remain an independent MP.

Hard to see why the still exit to be honest... and without Aaron Banks and now their 'short money' they probably won't quite soon.

He should do the decent and honourable thing and resign his seat and stand for reelection.

Sigh.

It'll be the end of civilisation as we know it, and we heard it here first from you. Yeh, right.

UKIP have served their purpose, that was to Leave EU. I don't think many UKIP supporters will be bothered about this. The only ones who seem really bothered about it are the Remainers.

WHAT DO PEOPLE FIND DIFFICULT ABOUT UNDERSTANDING HARD BREXIT, out of the single market, no freedom of movement, control our policy making without the EU telling us what we should be doing, live with it

If this is true then why haven't they been wound up rather than trying to get their leader elected as an mp

They want their snouts in the trough that's why. Bit like Farage still taking his Euro MP salary. Hypocrites the lot of them.

Not difficult at all we are out and there wil be a need to fully unwind EU Directives from UK law whete they are no longer applicable.
