Not all businesses need Facebook. It depends upon the customers you are targeting. Even then, it's possible to do business without it.

Personally, I'd rather not give my data to Zuckerberg for his personal gain. I'd like an open internet rather than a walled garden (or hell which is what it sounds like.) I understand why people get hooked or use it, but life without it is just dandy.

Nothing too sinister yet but it might make people think about what is capable now or in the future. An example being that if I, as a business, upload to FB the e mail addresses from my customer database then FB will interrogate their FB profile, assuming they have one, and pop my advert into the timeline of anyone on the FB database with similar interests. Obviously the assumption is that as they have similar hobbies and interests they may find what I am selling relevant for their needs. I win, potential customer wins and FB wins. However the power of that alone does get you wondering what may be coming down the line in the future. Also are most people aware that they have handed over so much information about their lifestyle that is being used by FB in a way that they may not be happy with.

I only keep my FB account because a lot of people I know will only use FB to send out invitations to events that, a lot of the time, I do want to attend. Previously they used e mail, I wished they still did it that way but they don’t – so it’s a quick login in to check my notifications then log out. Not the least bit interested in all the other shite. As for Linked In …… how that piece of crap ever got to be worth $25 Billion beggars belief. Got all my best job offers from meeting friends down the pub.

This is obviously the modern equivalent of chain letters (without the anonymity) and should be treated with the same contempt. I only have a few genuine friends and family on FB so fortunately don't get this shite.

Yep, I've never used fb like that. I just post things that are relevant to my business interests. I have followed links that warn that email data will be taken but I exit on that point.

I don’t use my timeline as a personal day to day diary but comment on non personal fb timeless, news, and I have joined one group.

Facebook wants our data but Google is the bigger monster of the two.

There are not many instances where fb is not beneficial to organisations in some capacity.

There are lots. Many b2b businesses do not entertain Facebook at all. Those that do generate very little benefit from it.

I only know this because I'm in the marketing industry.

Of course, Facebook is incredibly useful if your customer segments demand it, and there are many, you're right, but far from all.

The line that irks me, typically written below utterly risible posts designed to stir up a bit of racial discord ('They're banning people from eating peperamis in Carlisle because it offends Muslims!' etc - almost always so ludicrous that it could've been lifted straight off the script of Brasseye), is when people write 'I want to see who's 'brave' enough to repost this'

Got to try to remember a few things.

Remember the old chain mail letters that used to be sent containing threats, curses etc unless you passed them on? Its the same thing but a bit more subtle using emotional blackmail. Remember the advice to just bin it? Bin it.

Originally search engines were used to search the WWW to provide you with information, now some will search you for information for the internet ie facebook.

After a recent expose by Brietbart the whole trending news team has been sacked for leftwingery. That is why it looks different, its going to be replaced with an algorithm so keep your dwarf porn likes to a minimum unless you want that in your feed.

Its click bait that really annoys me, forcing of site loading with the "you will never believe what...." kind of gash. If I click on 10 reasons why etc then that shit needs to be on 1 or 2 pages not 25.
