Looks as if the club is getting its excuses in early..... We are going to struggle to make the play-offs this year unless we sign at least one and ideally two good quality strikers before the window shuts tomorrow. Let's hope the club has something up its sleeve. It's not as if we haven't had sufficient time. Having just two permanent first team strikers on our books is just not good enough if we are serious about obtaining promotion this season. Any medium term injuries or suspensions in the striking department will seriously cripple us.

Agreed. We were very much second best in that game and the Toon had their two first team strikers out. I shudder to think what the score might have been had we played a full strength side.

That said, we've still got two days left to sign that quality striker.....here's hoping.

You obviously missed the bit about aiming for another striker and how had pritchard signed our business would already be completed. (ie it isnt currently) both clearly part of that article

CH said in his Sky interview that he would be happy with the squad he has now (if we were unable to sign any more players). Mind you I wasn't sure if that meant "provided we keep Dale".

Hughton said it on Talk Sport last night at 8.30, in interviews with the Argus on Saturday, in interviews with BBC Sussex on Saturday.

They are going to sign a striker.

This doesn't mean, to be clear, they are not going to sign a striker.

I saw that, of course, but we've heard such claims before especially at this time of the year and when it comes to signing strikers. Let's see what the next two days brings.

I think the OP was getting his moaning in early, just in case the club signs a striker....

I missed the interview on Talk Sport. That sounds promising. Time will tell I guess.

Not at all but our record at signing first team strikers is not particularly inspiring. And btw, I think we need two strikers not one to be competitive with the big boys this year.

I don't think anyone can deny we do need another striker though. We aren't good enough to go up with what we've got.

I'm a big Murray fan but we can't rely on him every game

If we don't get a striker then it's all up to Elvis to deliver the 4th choice striker goals to take us to top 2.

Where on earth have you come to the conclusion, from that article, that we're not signing a striker?

Well said CJ... I hope Chris is correct, and there are no late problems with our elusive striker deal...

More likely we'll sign an attacking midfielder that the club dress up as a "forward" in yet another deadline day fail for us when it comes to bringing in centre forwards.

Still scarred by the Stephen Dobbie debacle.

Not to me.

I'm fed up with failing in the playoffs each year, and it's costing Tony £18 million a year to continue to do so.

Yes, I 100% agree, and I'm confident Tony now realises this... we MUST bring in a striker before deadline day / Manu is definitely NOT the answer (although, TBF, he is improving)...
