Chris Hughton has praised Steve Sidwell – as midfield competition*starts to really hot up.
Sidwell was one of Albion’s most eye-catching players in the 0-0 draw at Derby yesterday.
He also impressed in the season-ending draw with Sheffield Wednesday last May in the absence of the banned Dale Stephens.
Now Stephens is available again having completed his suspension yesterday – and the Seagulls have also signed Northern Ireland international Oliver Norwood.
But Sidwell. who played alongside the busy Beram Kayal at the iPro Stadium, has done all he can to keep his place.
He looked in great shape despite a disrupted pre-season and Hughton said: “With Siddy, it was no surprise.

“I think people were surprised at the end of the season, where he hadn’t played for a while, how he slotted into the play-off game and showed great energy.“He is another with experience. He knows this level and is a fit lad.
“He is somebody who can read the game. He wants to break forward ad is clever at knowing when he can and when he can’t.”
