      Worth a read: especially:

40 The guard on train 2K04 was in the centre of the train when the derailment occurred. She walked forwards when the train stopped, but was unable to enter the leading coach because of a sharp bend in the gangway connection between the first and second coaches which had occurred as a result of the derailment. She then walked towards the rear of the train, checking on the passengers. From the rear cab, she could see the north end of the tunnel. She attempted to contact the driver using the train’s intercom in order to check that the emergency services had been contacted. The driver did not respond immediately as he was talking to the signaller.
41 Shortly afterwards, the driver contacted the guard by intercom and asked if anybody was hurt so that he could inform the signaller. She confirmed that there were no serious injuries in the rear seven coaches. The driver, by speaking to passengers through the gap in the cab-saloon door, confirmed that there were no serious injuries among passengers in the front coach. The guard, after consulting the driver, then placed track-circuit operating clips on the track behind her train.
42 The guard then made an announcement to passengers and assured them that the driver was unharmed, and walked through the train again, checking on passengers and reassuring them. This time she managed to enter the front coach where she found a male passenger who was sitting on the floor and had hurt his back, and a female passenger who was suffering from shock.
43 Later, after passengers had been moved to the rear unit of train 2K04, the guard opened internal doors and partially opened some external doors to improve ventilation. She identified and briefed a passenger to stand inside each door to prevent other passengers leaving the train through these doors. 44 The driver remained in his cab for about an hour after the accident. During this time, he started to experience back pain and was assisted to climb into, and walk through, train 2Y59. He was then assisted by the driver of train 2Y59 and emergency services personnel into the rear unit of train 2K04.

But of course we don't need guards any more - modernisation is the future.

RAIL workers are to launch a fresh wave of strikes in a long-running dispute over and driver-only trains.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union at Southern will walk out on Friday September 1 and Monday September 4.

The union accused the company and the Government of pressing ahead with controversial plans to extend driver-only operation.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: "RMT is bitterly disappointed that Southern Rail have rejected our call for round-table discussions involving all parties with an interest in resolving this dispute.

"The failure to get those talks moving following our face-to-face meeting with Transport Secretary Chris Grayling has left us no option but to call further action.

"RMT pays tribute to our Southern Rail guards and drivers who have stood firm for well over a year in the fight for rail safety despite outrageous abuse and intimidation from the company.

"They are a credit to their communities and to the whole trade union movement.

"RMT has a clear plan for resolving this dispute but that requires round-table talks now to push forwards."

He still has not put forwards the data to prove which method is safer. After all this time you think someone would have done some work to prove which method will be safer for passengers.

Not yet, that is the international break. Sure it won't be the last though, and I'm sure ASLEF will soon be joining in.

For those with a few car parking tickets at southern stations (indigo)

Up untill now you have been able to ignore them but since this company won their case in Cardiff they will be chasing lost revenue.

New strike dates for the noddy strike 03rd and 05th October, clearly a pointless exercise now
      I surrender all control
To the desire that consumes me whole
Leads me by the hand to infinity
Lies in wait at the heart of me - the Albion of course !
