I presume that once they've done all the ballistics John will be completely cleared. Maybe a slap on the wrist for smacking the psycho killer around a bit.

Thought the same about the ballistics and also if that was the case why was he digging himself in deeper? The only witness to him smacking Jeremy Lake around is now dead.

Mr & Mrs Lake still being alive forms the basis of Luther 6, with Jeremy surviving the BigC. Jointly timed escapes from Rampton and Pentonville, followed by more serial killing.

I really wish they would stop bringing Alice back from the dead and giving her more and more bizarre stories as to how she got out of this or that situation. She is a really annoying character and they keep trying to make her into some sort of sex kitten when, as good an actress as Ruth Wilson is. she looks like Marge Simpson. She's like aDr Who character. And the be-hatted pantomime gangster coming back is all a bit shite too.

The series where he rescued the girl from the porn/prostitute gang. Now that had good characters, that gang were menacing, Paul McGann as the friend who provides a safe house. those were good characters. It was gritty and raw. Now it's like Lock Stock.

And please someone tell Elba to tone down that walk. At the moment his swagger is a 10, I need it at about 6.

But despite all this coupled with Elba's terrible, wooden acting, I find it hugely entertaining.

Other than that, s'alright.

Ruth Wilson is a fantastic actor, and the lack of groove in her top lip is an added bonus.
As silly as it was, compared to the earlier, more sober offerings, I thought it was fantastic.

Loved the homage of 'Happy Families' in due deference to the King of such dramas, The Bridge.

Did anyone else notice the bad bit of continuity when Luther came in to interview Mrs Lake in the last episode. For some reason the camera did a close up of Luther pouring water into the beaker. He barely poured any water in only filling it just below the lower portion of the beaker before the indent where it flares out, so only about a fifth full which was unusual in itself so it caught my attention. Because of the extreme close up of the pouring I thought it was significant so kept an eye on it. However when he arrived at the table and took a sip the beaker was over half full.
Considering they'd gone to the trouble of doing the extreme close up of the pouring of the water you'd have thought they'd have got the following cut to match.
I'm a bit OCD on things like that. It was like the scene in Little Drumer Girl when I picked up on the fact that the black female hitchhiker suddenly produced a pistol even though she was wearing tight skimpy clothing which didn't allow for the hiding of such a weapon.

Thank God someone else has picked up on that ridiculous hands in pocket gait. It's just too exaggerated. For Idris Elba's best turn you need to check him out as drug gangster Stringer Bell in the US drama series ' The Wire'.

My OCD moment was towards the end when Halliday and Luther are making their way in to the house in darkness and discovering the endless stream of bodies.... Pitch black then a knock at the door " Pizza Delivery".... Comes the voice yet they come down and it's daytime. Now how do you get a pizza delivered at 6am?

Finished watching Luther last night, must say it was a bit disappointing in the end. Bit predictable and think they focused too much on Luther/Alice rather than on the murderers. Was good and gripping in places but episode 4 was a let down for me.

Episode 2 - Luther's at home and he puts his red tie around his neck and ties the knot, in the next shot it's untied and he reties it with the end of the tie finishing mid belly. The next scene the tie is still tied but the end finishes at belt height. Mrs Southcoastowl likes a good tie and was perturbed by this. She felt it was her duty to rewind to those bits that demonstrated the lack of continuity just to show me again and again and again.......

Mrs Southcoastowl sounds like my kind a gal. Have you drawn her attention to the beaker filling scene in episode 4 or don't you want to encourage her.

This. In the first two series’ he actually carried out procedural detective work and the personal life and other pressures in his life ran as a sub-plot and it worked well. During series three the police work took a backseat and Alice and the other pantomime idiocy took centre stage. This got worse and so by series four and five the police work was almost all gone and taken over by a repetitive narrative of him receiving a phone call, racing to an abandoned factory and then Alice popping up , sorting all the problems out and the disappearing or being “killed”.
At one point in this latest series Luther actually went into a police interview and it was so unusual it took me a minute to remember he is actually a detective.
Ludicrous.

London, the city that never sleeps. Well according to Luther’s writers.

I noticed that about the light changes.

Plus no one from the 20 odd neighbours looked out or turned lights on from the chaos of shootings, and an army of police.

Whilst the police chief followed a convenient drip drip of blood to a building site, that had been conveniently left open for Alice to run into.

Good point, very hard to get in to building sites these days plus.... most delivery drivers just park up with their hazards and other lights on, surely the road should have been a mess of badly parked lit up cars and mopeds ? Additionally, surely one or two people would have put up a bit of a fight against a pretty lightweight surgeon ? At least some screaming to wake the neighbours ?

Not sure how he got tested though, as I thought it was just people in hospital that got tested. Apart from mp's and football players.
