West is BEST
Apple quickly rose to total dominance in a very competitive market. You don't get there by being the best you get there by being a ruthless bunch of shits.

I'd be interested on your appraisal of other smart watches which are rated below Apple Watch, such as the Samsung Galaxy Gear.

I've never used any of them, so I'm not in a position to appraise or compare the other brands (although it was quite amusing how, as per usual, Apple unveiled this thing with a great fanfare a year ago as if they'd just reinvented the wheel).

In general though, whatever the brand, the whole concept of a smart watch linked to your phone just leaves me cold. I've never really found getting my phone out to be a terrible inconvenience tbh, and whilst I can see a few benefits of having a watch when exercising, there are more specialised (and cheaper) devices on the market that can serve that function equally as well if not better than what Apple have come up with. I certainly see nothing in the Apple Watch or any other smart watch that would make me want to ditch my Fitbit.

Amazingly, no I don't. It never appealed.

My Garmin Forerunner 235 does smart watch type functions so I get notifications and stuff on that. I don't like square watches.

New straps could change all of this of course.

Oh dear. I've got a 1962 Omega Seamaster. It's ever so nice and I love it dearly but it doesn't tell the time very well.

I'm not sure what year my Omega Seamaster Pro is. Not that old though. I also love it dearly and, like most mechanical watches, it's not particularly accurate either.

It doesn't count my steps though so it's currently out of favour.

Looking forwards to the SE. My iPhone 5 is close to death now (battery maybe lasts an hour under active load) and I've held off on the iPhone 6/6 Plus form factor as it's just too big for me. Hopefully the SE is what I want (which rumours suggest it will be), otherwise I'm not sure what I'm buying instead.

I imagine the SE will have the spec of the 6 and body of the 5 with maybe one or two ominous features that they'll milk to death (lower pixel density revealing colours and contrast never before seen before on an Apple device ad nauseam).

If it's got the 6 spec in the 5's body then I don't really care about any of the marketing stuff that, as you say, they'll heavily promote on stage, but you won't actually notice when the device is in your hands. To be honest if the battery lasts 8 or 9 hours and it has a faster processor than me 5 I'll be pretty pleased, so I've set the bar nice and low for them.

The biggest shortcoming of the watch, for me, is the lack of GPS so it's not a particularly effective exercise aid when used in isolation.

you've got to hand it to the marketing genius of apple. they've actually persuaded people that you can't go for a run without a massively over-priced piece of tech strapped to your carcass...

The SE looks like a sign of maturity from Apple that people don't necessarily want the latest flash shiney, sometime they want the familiar refreshed. It's the same size as the older candy bar models which is all most punters want.

Love it or hate it Apple is simply the best you can buy!
Android is utter crap as are Samsung phones.
I tried a Samsung 4 after my iPhone 5 just as a change,
the biggest mistake I have ever made with regards to phones.
Android is a dreadful dreary useless system blah blah blah !

Agree with both of those.

There's definitely a market for the SE.

I've got a 6 and it works a charm, barely use any of the features but often feel it's too big and sometimes have trouble using it with one hand (giggidy).
The 5 was a perfect size, so I'll be interested in seeing what they come out with, though wouldn't make the jump to a newer model until September to see what's next in line.

Conversely, I had a Galaxy S3, it was superb, everything worked perfectly and the phone was fully customisable, Android was very easy to use.
