I know you lot aren't happy unless you have something to moan about re the trains.

But the weather tonight is absolute shithouse. The ground is absolutely soaked after a very wet winter, and we're facing extremely high winds tonight. Trees are likely to come down. How is that Southern Rail's fault? Are they supposed to get Network Rail to cut down every tree on every route in order to prevent debris from getting on to the line?

(Presumably in order to do this, they'd have to close lines and run a replacement bus service).

They tried this at Oxted last year. Network Rail (who are worse than Southern) cut down all the trees on the bank around Oxted.

2 weeks later, heavy rain and due to the fact they had removed all the trees, it just washed all the soil away in a huge landslip. Well done all concerned.

Carnage at Hove this morning, train broken, just after leaving Hove, wait 10 mins, kick everyone off - Literally as they open the doors the train to Brighton on next platform leaves, brilliant joined up thinking there. Next Brighton train cancelled due to lack of staff. Next 2 Brighton trains 20 mins late and full. Next Vic train cancelled. None of this down to the weather, just incompetence.

I've had a lovely coffee at the café down the road though, might be a small batch one.

Trees used to be cut back quite hard in the days of steam but Southern's area was electrified pretty early so there's probably 90 years of growth. If they're going to do it they need to pre-lay new plants with good root structures first.

Wouldn't happen in Germany
Yes , we know, the Germans have pretty good form when it comes to ensuring that trains arrive on time , at the correct destination, no matter how long the journey or how packed the carriages..............................
