In this game we learned a lot about the boys and the different physicality of the game."

Brighton & Hove Albion under-18 coach Ian Buckman took many positives from a 4-0 friendly victory over a Burgess Hill under-21 side last week, as the Seagulls took a break from their competitive fixture schedule.
*
A brace from Thomas Byrne and a goal each from Owen Moore and Archie Davies secured a convincing win and Buckman feels the game was valuable preparation for this Saturday’s match with Fulham.
*
He said, “It was a good fixture for us; we had a break in the fixtures programme and Burgess Hill came down with their under-21 squad.
*
“They’ve got some good players in there and are a well organised team, so we were pleased with the performance.
*
“We’ve tried to improve our performances in recent weeks and we’ve had a high percentage of possession, which has been pleasing.“In this game we learned a lot about the boys and the different physicality of the game. It’s a break from the games programme, but it also gives the lads an opportunity to show us some things they can’t do on a weekly basis.
*
“We’re very glad to have good relationships with local clubs and we’d like to organise more games like this in the future.”

The under-18 coach now hopes to continue the recent improved form, with the side currently unbeaten in their last three competitive games.
*
“It all helps to increase our winning mentality.“In terms of our philosophy, it’s mainly about focusing on the boys’ development as they hopefully move into that under-21 group.
“We play Fulham away this afternoon and they are a strong side doing very well in the games programme. They are in good form, so it will be another good test.”
