Gogic 42

  • Andy Gogic scored the winner
  • Kazenga LuaLua and Richie Towell play for the first hour
  • Christian Walton and Glen Rea play the full 90 minutes
  • Albion return to league action next week against West Bromwich Albion

Brighton & Hove Albion’s under-21s were beaten 1-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre this afternoon.
Andy Gogic’s first-half strike was enough to give the Bees a narrow victory in a closely-contested encounter.
Coach Simon Rusk had a strong squad for the match, with Kazenga LuaLua and Richie Towell both featuring for the first hour, while Christian Walton and Glen Rea played the full 90 minutes.
Lewis Macleod had Brentford’s first chance of the game with a shot from distance that went just wide of the target.
Josh McEachran forced Walton into a save with another attempt from the edge of the box.
Albion grew into the game and Towell had a chance to break the deadlock, but saw his free-kick go over the bar.
Daniel Akindayini surged down the left-hand side and made his way to the byline, only to see his shot saved by Brentford keeper Jack Bonham.
The visitors continued to look threatening going forward, as McEachran found Philipp Hofmann inside the box and the latter’s shot went over the bar.
The deadlock was broken three minutes before the interval when Macleod delivered a cross into the path of Gogic, who fired his shot past Walton.
Brentford could have doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time, as McEachran found Hofmann but his shot was cleared off the line.

LATEST NEWS FROM*SEAGULLS.CO.UK

Albion created their first chance after the interval when Jesse Starkey’s in-swinging free-kick found Rea inside the box but his attempted backheel did not trouble Bonham.Seconds later, the visitors broke forward and Marco Djuricin forced Walton into a good save, before the shot-stopper was called into action again to keep out a Nico Yennaris effort.
James Tilley and Towell both had opportunities to level the score-line with shots from distance, but Bonham made two comfortable saves.
Jack Harper and Jayson Molumby came on shortly after the hour mark to replace LuaLua and Towell.
Harper almost made an immediate impact after linking up with Tilley, but he Scotsman shot wide of the target.
Albion had arguably their best chance of an equaliser when a searching delivery from Dessie Hutchinson picked out Dylan Barnett and the full-back’s header cannoned off the crossbar.
Harper had one last opportunity to claw Albion back into the game after making a driving run into the box but his shot went over and Brentford claimed the win.
ALBION: Walton; Hunt, Rea, Dallison, Barnett; Tilley, Starkey (Tighe 73), Hutchinson; Akindayini (Deen 82), Towell (Molumby 61), LuaLua (Harper 61).
