Albion boss Chris Hughton has branded back-to-back away games at Reading and Sheffield Wednesday as the biggest test yet for his unbeaten Championship leaders.
Today’s hosts Reading are smarting from a 4-2 defeat at Fulham last Saturday, where they folded after leading 2-0.
The Seagulls then head for Hillsborough on Tuesday, scene of Arsenal’s 3-0 exit this week from the Capital One Cup which sealed a quarter-final trip to Stoke for Sheffield.
Add to the mix the absences of left-side pairing Gaetan Bong (thigh), Kazenga LuaLua (groin), together with major doubts about key duo Gordon Greer (knee) and Dale Stephens (thigh), and Hughton has acknowledged his table-toppers are about to be examined like never before.
Back in August successive away games yielded a last-gasp victory at Fulham and draw at Huddersfield.
Hughton told The Argus: “Not taking anything away from Fulham and Huddersfield but that was earlier in the season. At that stage you are still finding your feet a little bit.

“I think most teams are into a little bit of a rhythm now. When you look at the atmosphere at Sheffield Wednesday the other night – more than 30,000 people there – and the performance.“They have just taken Gary Hooper on loan as well. I see it as two very tough games that we will have to play well in, be very resilient.
“We are going to have to be very brave. We are certainly going to have to do well to get a result in either of the games.”
Albion will remain on top regardless of the result at Reading, who are seven points adrift in seventh.
