Another thread that's going to end up like a Alfred sounding like Danny Vinyard from American History X. Just enough truth to get you interested at the start before the anger and hate comes through later on as the thread progresses.

Yes you are missing something, he has been in Guantanamo for 13 years but has never been charged or put on trial.

I'm #TeamAlfred here.

The UK is now at the greatest threat of a terrorist attack in 30+ years (see recent Andrew Parker press statements) and expecting the terror threat level to jump from Severe to Critical at any moment.

We need to be extremely vigilant, both public and government.
Allowing suspected terrorists/extremists into our country at this time is just too high a risk.

"Mr Aamer was detained in Afghanistan in 2001 by bounty hunters tracking down and handing over possible al-Qaeda suspects, shortly after the 9/11 attacks on America."

Rounding up benign charity workers and claiming they're terrorists to a paranoid authority seems like easy money to me.

Guilty until proven innocent it is then. :wrong:

Plenty of murderers and rapists have been released into the UK community, in many cases, in less than 13 years, and they were actually found guilty of committing a crime in the UK, rather than taking an American occupiers words for it and being detained at Guantanamo for 13 years without charge, or trial.
Maybe some of our news gatherers can list all convicted criminals being released, from UK jails on a daily basis so we can be more vigilant. Much more chance of these people affecting your lives.

Assume the OP wouldn't mind being detained without trial for 13 years and tortured either?
The OP wouldnt have been in afghanistan on ''charity work'' , funny how that other innocent man omar deghayes 2 nephews have both been killed whilst fighting in syria , or that other innocent from guantanamo jamal al harith who is now with ISIS in syria, the naivete of some people is astounding.

I really don't think these Islamic fundamentals are as dangerous as the IRA in their heyday.
Even with the willingness to forfeit their own lives in suicide attacks, they have had very few successes since the huge shock of the 7/7 attacks, the provos and their fellow Republican terrorists had many on mainland Britain..
This may be due to the proximity of the IRA s home ground, a large arsenal of weapons, or that the security services have had to up their game to combat a different type off threat, but whatever the difference, it's a blessing that ISIS and ttheir fellow travellers is not as successful in this country the IRA were.

Would those 2 family members, and t'other fella be radicalised had 'innocent' men not been detained without trial and tortured for 13 years?

Is that what you really think is the case ?

You do realise that it is possible for not all Muslims who have gone to Syria or Afghanistan to be there for the same purpose? If it is so obvious (to you, at least) that Shaker Aamer was in Afghanistan for terrorism purposes, why has no evidence or charges been brought against him in the 13 years that he has been detained?

The massive irony here is that we're told the war on terror is a struggle to protect Britain, and indeed the rest of the West, from having our culture and values destroyed and eroded by extremists. The last time I checked, 'innoncent until proven guilty' was one of the fundemental tenets of our society.

Strange how some folk expound the superior virtues of western democracy, yet fail to condemn the imprisonment and torture of someone who has no recourse to a fair trial.
