Tomer Hemed scored another Albion winner – on a hugely emotional day at the Amex.
The Israeli striker struck from close range in just the fifth minute to secure a 1-0 win over second-placed Hull City.
It was a fitting way to cap a momentous day as the Seagulls and their fans paid tribute to those who died in the Shoreham Airshow tragedy.
Hemed produced a clinical touch to sort out a goalmouth scramble when it seemed the chance might have gone.
That was part of a high-powered opening by the Seagulls which should have brought more goals.
Hemed was guilty of the worst miss when he failed to connect with a shot in front of goal.
Albion were pushed back for periods as the game wore on.
But Hull’s attacking work was uninspired and their former keeper David Stockdale was only seriously tested once as he got down low to his right to parry Mo Diame’s shot.

Bobby Zamora, making his second home debut as a late sub, was involved in the move in which Beram Kayal had a drive blocked by a defender right in front of goal.Sussex boy Greg Luer got on late for Hull.
The only setback for the Seagulls was a fifth booking of the season for Kazenga LuaLua, who now misses Tuesday’s visit of Rotherham.
But that will be forgotten long after more powerful images of the afternoon remain vivid in the memory.
