This point may have been made before, but why are attendances lower so far this season than last when we have not only made such a good start to the season, but are playing entertaining football? Does it just reflect the absence of season ticket holders that haven't renewed?

Well, Leeds and Derby get more away fans because Brighton is (on top of travel to London) another hour / two hours across London. Brighton still have the best support in the lower leagues. I wonder what could be achieved with a team in the top flight.

Think the +/- figure for Preston may be wrong

The stats are now in to the end of October & make some interesting reading. The average league attendance this season (all clubs) is 17,223, down from an average gate (whole season 2014/15) of 17,857.

Cardiff have witnessed the biggest slump of -32.1%, followed by Nottingham Forest -17.4%, Huddersfield -13.3% & Wolves -11.2%

We have experienced a drop in attendances of -6.6% (which is worse than the average of -3.6%)

Unless we go up next season, I suspect the crowds will go down again. With the 1901 renewals, I know of a number of firms, who will not be renewing. Suppose it's a case of been there done that.

Also, with our 5th season at the Amex, some just want to be entertained & see goals. In truth in 5+ seasons, wie have only had one decent forward. Amazing we have done as well considering! I'll be a season ticket whatever league we are in, but then at Withdean we didn't sell out! All about winning & being entertained at a reasonable price.

It is indeed unbelievable that we have had only one top Championship quality striker in 5 years. I am not counting BZ as he is only capable of a few minutes a game.

The only 20 goal a season Championship striker in the last 5 seasons who's been on our books is not actually Ulloa.
Its Sam Vokes.

After 8 league games at The Amex, our average attendances have been:

2011: 20,154
2012: 25,495
2013: 26,802
2014: 24,994
2015: 23,921

That's a revealing set of figures. There is the expense issue (which might not bother you :) but will do many), but it also shows that there were too many flimsy fans coming in previous seasons, too many of which got put off by last season's horror show.

Think it's more of a case of too many people wanting instant gratification. If they don't get it they get bored & move on.

Yup. I meant that by the phrase flimsy fans, but you've been clearer.

Are we a bit tin pot when we take less than 500 away to Sheffield W & near the top, but only attract 23,000 at home? Compared historically it's brill but Leeds, SheffW, Wolves for instance would attract more in our position ...

I don't think we are tin pot but I think the majority of Brighton fans would agree the teams you mentioned have far bigger support than we have (historically )
