[Cricket] Third Ashes Test - England v Australia - Edgbaston

England's second innings collapse in the Lord's test and the fact they're batting last here at Edgbaston mean that any target of over 150 gives Australia a chance, probably 225 means it's an even game.

Therefore, as things stand, Australia would need to score 310 in their 2nd innings to leave England that 225 to chase. I fancy another 40 runs after lunch and a lead of 125 would still leave us in a solid position. It would be a big ask for the Aussies to score more than 350 in their 2nd innings.

Just back to the opener debate, I wonder whether there's a case for Buttler opening instead of Lyth and Eoin Morgan coming in at 5 after Root?

Buttler will score quickly against the new ball, and this will take the pressure off Cook to force it as he has recently had to do. You don't really want to be blooding an uncapped Test player at the business end of an Ashes series and Morgan can slot in seamlessly. I fancy Buttler to score more runs than Hales or anyone else as opener too.

Moeen Ali 50* (66 balls, 10 fours)

This is fantastic innings in the circumstances, and a massively important 73 run partnership for the 8th wicket with Stuart Broad :clap2:

England 263-7, leading by 127

Johnson replaced by Hazlewood, to the immense disappointment of the crowd, left chanting "We want Mitch! We want Mitch!"

This partnership shows exactly why attacking batting is a good way to play. 85 ahead still had the Aussies just about in it; 40 very quick runs later and you start to fancy that England could even win this by an innings.

In the last 8 overs since lunch, Ali and Broad have added 51 runs... Test match cricket at its finest :)

Of course it does...

Number 8 and 9 should bat this way, that goes without saying, numbers 1, 3 and 5? Perhaps not.

Broad caught at mid-on .. toe ending a pull to a short one from Hazlewood - pity that was fantastic while it lasted.
