Chances were created by both sides not long after the restart, but Albion threatened more as a clever effort from George Cox on the left-hand side tested the Black Cats’ goalkeeper, James Talbot. But Talbot was beaten in the 59th minute, as Maguire-Drew cut inside from the right and threaded in a superb pass towards Ragnar Mar-Larusson, who slotted the ball home.
Chances to double the lead came Albion’s way, as Mar Larusson found himself with a sight of goal once more, only to see his placed effort saved. Then later, Maguire-Drew saw a powerful strike blocked by a combination of Talbot and his defenders.
The away side did pose a threat to equalise though, and with just six-minutes remaining they managed to snatch victory out of the Seagulls’ grasp, after Elliot Embleton beat two defenders before driving his strike into the bottom corner of Vose’s goal.
Albion face Derby in their final home game of the season next week, in a repeat of the FA Youth Cup fixture which saw the Rams run out 2-0 winners at the Amex.
ALBION: Vose; Davies, Barnett, Cadman, Cox (Sanders 55); Meyers, Hutchinson (Meekums 62); Maguire-Drew, Tilley, Tighe; Mar-Larusson. Subs not used: Hobbs, Ajiboye, Ferguson.
