Jake Forster-Caskey says Albion’s lack of attacking prowess in front of goal is continuing to prove costly, following a 2-0 defeat against Championship table-toppers Watford.

The midfielder was recalled to Chris Hughton’s starting eleven for the clash against the Hornets and he believes Albion’s inability to take their chances has been the ultimate reason for a frustrating season.

He said, “We knew it was going to be tough as they’re top of the league, but we’re disappointed with the result."It’s been a disappointing season all round and we wanted to send the fans off with one last win at home, but unfortunately we haven’t done that. Now we need to focus on next Saturday’s game [v Middlesbrough] and try to end the season positively because we’ve let a few people down this season.

“In the first half I thought we dominated them, but then they had one chance and scored. We were in the game at that stage and were probably the better side in the first half. The crowd got behind us and we worked hard, but ultimately we didn’t take our chances.

“We just have to keep going because we have another massive game on Saturday against another good team. We’re just hoping to win that game to give everyone around the club something to cheer about.”

Forster-Caskey has struggled to nail down a starting berth in the team during recent months, but the midfielder is remaining positive and hopes this season’s shortcomings can be used as a catalyst for next term.

“I’ve worked hard since being out the side and it hasn’t been easy. But you just have to train hard, wait for your opportunity and take it. Every player wants to play and it’s frustrating when you don’t play.

“It’s been difficult for me, but you just have to stay confident. Hopefully the team can stay confident as well going into next season and believe that we can get back up the table again, like we have done in previous seasons.

"We’re not going to hide the fact that we’re disappointed with how we've done, but we’ll definitely be looking to change that next season.”
