Burke gets one of top jobs at the FA

Get sacked from your job? Only in football

Don't worry about getting the sack in football. A better one will be along very soon.

Albion's former head of football operations David Burke has landed a key post with the FA.

He has been appointed talent ID manager of the youth development phase.

Burke will help identify a future generation of potential senior England players in the 17 to 19 age group.

He has a team of scouts working under him as part of the FA’s talent identification network, which provides the national coaches at youth level with a database of performing and potential players.

Burke’s shock appointment follows his sacking by Albion on Christmas Eve.

He was axed by chairman Tony Bloom after overseeing a disastrous summer of transfer activity.

It used to be a case of "All is forgiven " if you could kick a ball, nice to see the football " family " extend this tradition to bean counters and anoraks.

So actually he is very good and along with jakey being an integral part of the U21, it proves that we fans know NOTHING about football.

It was player scouting and buying that he wasnt very good at. Don't think that will be his job description at the f.a..

We simply don't know though do we unless anyone of us is privy to what is going on inside the whole recruitment machine of the football club.

When has that ever stopped speculation?

A case of who you know not what you know? Surely not.

Or maybe Burke wasn't actually the problem with this season's recruitment.

One thing is certain, we will never know.

Surely if he was that good at this, he would have flagged Cook as a multi-million pound Premier League prospect, rather than unquestionably releasing him for virtually nothing?

Except he was not at the club when Cook left (Cook went to Bournemouth initially on loan in October 2011 and permanently on Jan 3rd 2012). Burke joined in Jan 2012. Not that I am defending him at all, but this is the wrong stick to beat DB with - I am sure that there are plenty of others!

Sounds a good job for him. Hope it works out.

He did a pretty good job with the youth team Rohan Ince, Solly March anyone?

I don't get this new fad of wishing ill on people after they have left. He's gone, were happy about it and now he's got a new job and hopefully he's happy about it.
