It always seems that the manager and backroom staff always carry the can when things go wrong, rarely, if ever do the suits get the same treatment. Would be nice if they knew their necks were in the noose too, they would have a better selection policy for managers and coaches and have the funds to target the right players.

Hence PB has done his bit in providing the budget. He doesn't have any say in how it is then spent, or squandered, as has been the case with some of our signings over the past 18 months.

So the chairman does not decide the playing budget, PB does. So is PB paying his share of the £14 million losses?

All 3.

On the pitch - Sami, tactically inept. Not been helped by crap recruitment but the constant selection of the Siamese Twins in midfield (for starters) shows he hasn't got what it takes to move our club forwards in the right direction.

Recruitment - Burke, shocking! Even the Moose on talk sport was taking the piss out of the O'Grady signing.

Off the pitch/finance - Barber. Bean counter, not a football man (unlike Perry, who stood on the terraces, or Gordon Smith, who played the game and understood it from a fan's perspective). Upwards of 8k people, who had 'bought' tickets for last night, did not attend. Why? Because Barber saw the £80k from Sky, knew that the date change would mean that a number of sth's would not be able to make it (office parties, concerts/other activities already booked, working, etc) and knew that the money from those not attending was already banked. Short term = £80k - long term = pissed off sth's being taken for granted with another reason not to renew (not to mention lost revenue on the night, fewer programmes, pies, pints, etc sold).

I'm

Do we have an option when it comes to Sky games? Serious question.

My thoughts exactly. As for PB not being a football man, isn't he a lifelong spurs fan and prior to his career a regular at WHL?

CA might not like bean counters but without a good one, clubs go into administration!

We can blame, player recruitment and the coaching for our poor showing this season. We can blame the lack of funding, The club budgets are set by Tony Bloom and implemented by Barber. We all want bigger budgets for better players, and blame Bloom/Barber for not providing the money, unfairly in my opinion .I have seen many relegation struggles with The Albion over the years and when we go down ,its not the quality of the team, but the lack confidence and fight that is missing. We are at that point now !

We know who that is don't we. But we must not blame anyone as nwgull gets upset, unless it is the manager of course, then he will agree with you.

I just think that you're all blaming the wrong person. But carry on, I'm sure if PB was sacked COG would suddenly turn into a 30 goal a season world beater, and JFC and Gardener would turn into a powerhouse of a midfield combo.

If rumours are true, then the playing budget has gone up every season that Barber has been here. He has also boosted our income from things like improved sponsorship deals which he is here for which has helped to achieve this. How is investing this capital into the team failing to spend on the team? especially when things haven't been going well and they have spent further by bringing in Darren Bent and Elliott Bennett (could easily have said work with what you have got and not brought these 2 in as well as having reduced the playing budget every season since he got here if your playing side comment was true)

The Premier League ready thing was supposedly an internal thing only and never used in communications by the club to fans (except in correspondance to fans asking about it and getting this kind of reply) - why shouldn't they be trying to get the club in the best possible shape for its future?

The corporate nonsense is helping fund this investment in the squad, income directly from the fans can only go so far and i have absolutely no idea why this is even an issue other than we arn't doing too well and people need to find an explanation for it (whether the explanation is true or not) But without it i doubt we would be able to have a Championship squad even with the Amex because football is an expensive business.

BTW - did all our fans leave at Withdean when we struggled and got relegated there? I thought we still hovered around 6k there every season so they can't have all been die hards because we only had around 2k at Gillingham - why, if the main product is crap, did such a high percentage of the extra fans (Withdean JCLs if you like) keep coming back? and why won't a lot of the Amex fans still stay with it, even with relegation should it ever come?

Maybe the club being too open on how they operate is the problem, and ignorance is bliss but it's too late to put the genie back into the bottle but i'd have thought the fans would want the club to be open with the fans, especially given our recent history.

What communications are you referring to, i don't see anything and things like the pre match preview e-mail (if this is a problem) are easily ignored - to me it's a case of people making a mountain out of a molehill about a non issue.

There are adverts in the programmes and have been for decades - should we have been moaning about the over commercialisation of the club when these were relatively new and is that still and issuer now (if it ever was)

We have a lot of regular fans in the more commercially geared up areas of the ground (1901) so they will of course protentially see more commercial aspects as they should be a demographic with more income and more likely to be businesses, etc who may invest (like through buying advertising, or entertaining their business guests with a meal before the match and so on) - what else do you or should you expect?

20% of all Internet forum posts are made by companies that have self interest. It would be highly unlikely that BHAFC didn't follow this trend. Just saying........

Bang on the nail about Barber - I have missed a dozen or so games because of fixture switching and it pisses me off no end. Taken for granted

What?

PB generates income and keeps cost under control. The playing budget comes from this, together with whatever the Chairman is prepared to spend out of his own pocket.

A successful side is what generates income-not someone like Barber. If a team isn't winning no amount of corporate bullshit will raise income. We all know finances need to be kept in check because all managers love big money signings and they'll spend as much as they can and we all know that too. Corporate hospitality and sponsorship are only attractive when a team is successful which by itself brings in 'customers'. Barber was lucky, yes, lucky, joining BHAFC when he did. Successful team on the pitch. Brand new stadium with HUGE season ticket sales-above and beyond anybody at the club's expectations. And MOMENTUM. He had no part in that whatsoever but his image (and ego) were the benefactors of all of the efforts that were made before he joined.

Totally agree re the successful team part. But if the team were more successful this season, would PB's "corporate bullshit" etc keep fans away? Maybe a few but certainly not 8k.

It all boils down to having a successful side. Corporate bullshit of the Barber variety gets ignored when the side is winning. At times like this it sticks in the craw.

I think this is where he fails and not good at his job. You can come out with all this corporate bullshit when the club is doing well as normal fans will just ignore it, but to keep coming out with it when we as a team are failing, is like rubbing salt into the wounds of true fans. Surely a good PR expert gauges the feeling around the business before publishing things that would antagonise customers wouldn't they?

It doesn't matter what structure you have behind the scenes, if the team isn't doing well, it will stick in the craw. If we'd gone the last few years with the manager in sole charge of all transfers, and a shambles in operating the stadium with little money available to the team, we'd all be screaming for a recruitment structure and better commercial operations to maximise profits for the team investment. Honestly we would.
