It was always going to be an important game . We have not played Fulham this century, not since the mid-nineties.

It was Christmas 1958 and the Albion were in the second tier of the Football League for the very first time and entertaining the then illustrious Fulham, with the star of the time Johnny Haynes in their team. It was still the biggest recorded crowd at the Goldstone of 36,747 crammed in the big open ground. Are there still supporters around who went to the game? I know there are as I have met them in the concourse at the Amex.

What are their memories of what must have been a really big event?

I was too young at the time. I knew there was something big going on at the other end of Poet's Corner as granddad was a reserve on the turnstiles and he was only working for the really big games.

Head to Head

I don't know what to expect from Fulham.

This is a run down on the defence. Despite having the worst defence in the Championship, mostly because of letting in five goals against Forest and Derby, defenders are high on their list of best performers.

A rundown of their players is on:

Nearly 20 years since we last played Fulham. Some fans have never seen them live as opponents. I have never seen a really good game against them They have usually occurred at a low ebb in both clubs fortunes and they had more good fortune than us. Fans will crawl out of the woodwork. I do not know of any Fulham fans but there are more of them around than is realised.

Ross McCormack

Ross McCormack: is he worth £11 million?

Last season for Leeds he scored 28 with 8 assists. Shots per game 3.1. Key passes 2.1 But he lost the ball nearly 6 times every game.
This season for Fulham 4 goals and 7 assists. Shots per game 2.1 (only 1 a game from inside the penalty area).

Plays on the left, inverted right-footed striker. More deep-lying second striker, it seems. Not as fast as Craig Mackail-Smith (Peterborough).

Can I make a polite request perseus that you let someone else start the match thread on Saturday. I believe that we haven't won a single game when you've started the thread and I'm quite superstitious about these things.

Thank you.

There'll be over 3000 of us at the Amex. There are a hundred or so I estimate in Brighton and Hove, with otherss scattered around Sussex. There's a bloke who sits in front of me at the Cottage from over Fairlight way who goes with his children and grandchildren. Its that kind of multi generational support that lies at the root of our fanbase. I've lived here for most of my life but am passing on my grandfather and father's legacy (perhaps a curse) to my daughter.

Does this thread mean that you are going to give us a chance at least on Saturday and NOT start the official match day thread. :lolol:

Defining match of Hyppia's career : a good win and we'll move confidently on & a sharp loss and he will be close to the exit and make it 2/2 failures & that won't get many future interviews lined up

A little bit dramatic. A little bit over-stated.
But in essence you have a point...........if not this match then the run of games through to the opening of the January transfer window when TB must decide whether to trust Sami with more of his hard earned cash.

Recent History

Fulham 2 years ago, mid-table PL thinking about Europe.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20422485

Rodallega was in their side. And Aaron Hughes.

At the same time, Albion moved up to seventh with a 2-0 win over Bristol City in front of 24,044 fans.

Bruno, Greer & Dunk played for the Albion

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20405435

This is how Fulham lined up against Brentford last time out: http://www.whoscored.com/Matches/830073/Live Fulham semed to have played 4-4-2 and lost the game and possession stats. Brentford play a system quite like the Albion according to the diagram.
