Former Albion boss Gus Poyet has revealed why he did not take Leo Ulloa to Sunderland.
The Argentinean will be looking to score against the manager who first brought him to England when his Leicester side play the Black Cats tomorrow.
Poyet was widely expected to try to take Ulloa with him to Wearside after being appointed as Sunderland boss.
But instead Leicester pretty much had the path to themselves.
Poyet has revealed he remains a big fan of the striker he signed for Albion from Almeria in January 2013.
But, with Steven Fletcher, Connor Wickham, Jozy Altidore and Danny Graham already on board, his more pressing needs were elsewhere in his squad during the summer.
Poyet said: “I had no doubt that someone would buy him. If you looked at the Championship, he was the main man.
“He was not the player we were looking for so he was not under consideration*but I’m pleased he’s doing well.
“I went to see him in Spain and I was very pleased we were able to sign him.
“We helped each other at Brighton, which is a nice feeling."
Poyet has warned Ulloa will be a marked man as he aims to get back on the goal trail after six scoreless outings.
He added: “I can give John (O’Shea) and Wes (Brown) more information about him than any other striker.
“But he’s a striker that, if he gets delivery, he will have a chance and we need to cope with that.”
