Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of 19-year-old striker Chike Kandi on a two-year development contract.

The former Chelsea striker agreed terms with the club following a successful two-week period with Albion’s under-21s.

Under-21 coach Simon Ireland said, “He is an attacking player with pace and aggression, and is something a bit different to what we have in that position.

May as well give him a shot in the first team based on our 'strikers' recent performances.

Aren't the development squad bottom of their division? They probably need a new striker as much as the first team do.

I really hope this isn't the striker WA was talking about at the end of the Huddersfield game. The one Burke was trying really hard to sign :lolol:

When was the last time we had a decent first team striker come from the youth system/development squad ?

Can I guess...Never? Muir who we refused to play and he ended up as Tranmere's all time top scorer, is the only one that springs to mind.

Really happy to be corrected though.

Can Kandi play in the first team before January if he was still under contract to Chelsea at the end of the transfer window? (I have no idea if he was or wasn't)

Edit: Chelsea contract ended June 2014 so free to play if we are desperate :lolol:

Tony Towner and John Robinson were decent wingers from the youth team, but I'm struggling to think of a striker.

He wasn't - his contract at Chelsea expired in the summer. He had a trial at Charlton in July, and has been with West Brom since early August (he played for West Brom U-21s against Albion U-21s in a League match on September 22). I thought that trialists could only play a couple of matches at non-first team level, suggesting that he had signed some sort of a deal at the Baggies, but maybe it was after the transfer window closed (the player registration documents on the FA website would confirm/deny this, but the most recent one available at the moment is July).
