I would guess you would have to pay for any normal buses as they have a "special" fare on boxing day to cover costs, obviously they wont make money if we get on free with our football tickets.

If the club are willing to subsidise the fare, (as they do on other match days), it won't make any difference.

The overheads for the bus companies on Boxing Day would make it uneconomical to run if the normal subsidy was in place.

No they don't.

Regular fares in place I believe , the problem is the subsidy from the club is akin to the subsidy paid by the council for concessionary travel , a percentage formula of the cash fare. B&H Bus drivers (not the newer ones who are on a lower rate) volunteering to work on Boxing Day will be on roughly £30 an hour.

Would it pay and also woukd the drivers be prepared to work from 1pm - 7pm, on your figures £180 less tax of course, for an afternoons work but messes up the whole day

'The club' isn't the issue. It's about whether there will be enough drivers willing or able to work on Boxing Day to cover what's required. The drivers, I'm led to believe, are on triple-time for Boxing Day, with no contractural obligation to work.

I was told that by a driver; happy to be corrected if that's not the case.

If (?) they are on triple time, I would suspect there will be no shortage of volunteers wishing to work Boxing Day for a variety of reasons. Many drivers will surely be happy to earn a few extra quid I'm sure. Others of course, will see it as the perfect chance to escape from 'visitors' they don't wish to socialise with. Then there are others whose other halves have plans to drag them around Churchill Square, Bluewater, and similarly awful places.

"Sorry darling, I HAVE to work Boxing Day, the boss says I must". They get away from those people they perceive as a pain in the arse and make a good earner at the same time - Result.

When I worked in the airline industry, there was never a shortage of people to work public holidays, usually for the reasons stated above. The most that was ever paid was double time plus a day in lieu on Christmas day too.

Are the trains starting from Haywards Heath?

No trains from Three Bridges then?

None between 12:20am and 5:32pm on the 26th from Three Bridges to Brighton as far as I can see. The trains from Victoria aren't stopping at Three Bridges it seems.

Edit: Victoria to Brighton trains are stopping at Gatwick though, but I don't know how easy it is to get to Gatwick if public transport is limited. Coming back from Brighton though you can go direct to Three Bridges.

Thanks for that. I know the Fastway Buses run to the airport on Boxing Day, so should be ok.

Or I could just walk to the airport.

I think it's only one an hour though, leaving on the hour from Gatwick and getting into Brighton on the half hour. Worth double checking closer to the day though :)
