Another reason the rail network is a joke, too many old fossils running it. 'Computer says no' people who think 'forward thinking' is scheduling in some contractors 2 years in advance for maintenance, rather than investing in long term improvement to the service. Same every time someone mentions the railways in vain.

I think investing £5 Million into areas which are frequently causing disruption is money well spent, especially as the junctions being replaced are 40 years old. Anything that improves the current infrastructure is a bonus, especially as Flooding and signalling problems have caused big disruptions on the Mainline this year.

Good news if true, it sounds like these 'improvement' works may actually solve a problem or two.

It really is a pain at weekends though, the journey home form wembley yesterday was elongated due to the bloody roadworks on the A23 diverting the RR Bus via Cowfold! Over three hours to get home last night.

However if it means the signals become more reliable that will certainly address one of the major faults on the line, there seemed to be an inordinate number of signal failures in recent times.

Also thanks for the details on the work, it's nice to actually know what is going on.

The replacement bus that goes straight from Brighton to 3B isn't too bad so long as you remember to have gypsy's before you get on. :moo:

To an extent this is true. BR only needed Sundays and overnight working to complete necessary upgrades. It's only comparatively recently ( since rail privatisation ) that Saturday has been seen as an acceptable loss of service, because private rail companies are only interested in fleecing the lucrative ( captive ) commuter market, and don't give two hoots about encouraging leisure travel by train.
