which i expect isnt your mum's email at all, you just used that name to create an account, otherwise why would you know about it? accessing your mothers email, even with permission, could potentially be hacking (depends on the email providers rules) to which you have implicated yourself. but sending an email to an address, however one comes by it, is not hacking.

Can someone please point me in the right direction of what to do about this as I never gave my mums email out.

Considering that you can open an unlimited number of free email addresses on the internet, why do you need to use your mother's email account? Why do you have access to your mother's email account?

I think it is a reasonable supposition that any breach of online privacy that has occurred, has been facilitated by yourself by the liberal use of your relative's details.
