So the answer is something like:

Ulloa (7-10m)
Bridcutt (2.5m?)
Virgo (1.5M)
Zamora (1.5M)
Noone (1.5M?)
CKR (1.5M?)
Barry (??)
Hall (??)
Lawrenson (lots when you consider the decade of sale)
Barnes (359-750K)

Bennett was about £1.5 million too. I thought Noone was a bit lower, about £1 million. Was CKR that much. I think it was about £500K and then a significant sell on when Sheffield United sold him on but not that much.

Waste of time putting in flat amounts
Lawro @ 900k in '81 was about the highest ever defender transfer in World at the time so should be top.
Ritchie @ 400k at that time would be after Ulloa in 3rd

Going by that logic,Beeney was a decent fee for a goalkeeper,as was the £240,000 odd that keeley went for to Oldham...a few season earlier.

Wasn't Gareth Barry £1.5M set by tribuneral plus appeatance fees every time he played plus international appearances? His career progressed so fast and his value rocketed so quickly, that Villa bought out the remaining clauses for a further £1m, this also included ending our pursuit of another tribuneral over Michael Standing.

That's how I remember it, but could be wrong, memory is a bit hazy these days.

Zamora's fee was pathetic, not helped by the fact that at the time we sold him,tv monies had dropped,a squeeze of sorts was upon football at that moment,if my memory serves me correctly

I'm sure that we turned down a bid of about £3.5m from Everton so that we could keep him for another season, sadly he spent a lot of that season injured before finally moving to Spurs. Maybe it would have been in both his and our interest if he had moved to Everton after all.

I went to Blackpool just before Beeney was sold.

I seem to remember going as it could have been our last ever away game.

Making Beeney a pretty important transfer.

According to http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/bills/article-1633409/Historic-inflation-calculator-value-money-changed-1900.html (no idea how accurate it is) £900k from 1981 is about £3m now. So Lawrenson would still only be just above Bridcutt. I found it interesting that the £1.5m for Zamora would already be £2m in todays terms.

But in terms of football transfers, inflation rates have been far higher with the money from Sky, Asian markets, European competition, etc.....

Would Bale have really gone for £25,471,810.80 in 1981? (if the transfer fee was the reported £85.3m?)
Would Suarez have gone for £22,396,082.18 in 1981?

I suspect the fees would have been significantly lower as i doubt clubs would have been able to afford those sort of fees making Lawro's fee even higher in todays terms.
