The premiere of a short film featuring Inigo Calderon was the highlight of Albion in the Community's first ever event at the Brighton Fringe Festival this week.

The Open Minds Human Library event at Sussex University on Monday showcased AITC's Gamechangers project which aims to raise awareness of mental health and challenge public stigma around the issue. The short film, one of two made by volunteers on the project and young people from AITC's Albion Goals initiative, was filmed in March and highlights how football can be used to create a level playing field for people with mental health problems. Calderon, the 2013 Football League Community Player of Year and, a leading supporter of the project, met the volunteers at the Amex as part of the filming.*

The event at the university's Falmer campus also included an art exhibition and a special 'human library' where the AITC volunteers, all with experience of living with mental health, were part of a team of people who told their own personal stories to members of the public.

Caroline Orsola, AITC's Gamechangers Project Co-ordinator told seagulls.co.uk, "One of the main ways the project hopes to reduce stigma is through conversations between the volunteers and the public and over 150 conversations took place which was great. The films were also really well received. One member of the audience told me that having Inigo in the film was great as it would make people feel braver about bringing up the issue of mental health. It just goes to show how football can help get the message across on such an important issue."

The films will also be screened as part of a series of awareness raising workshops across the city over the next few months, but the film featuring Inigo can be viewed below.

AITC will also host a street soccer event with Brighton and Hove City Council as part of the festival. The event takes place on Sunday May 31st on the site of the city's former municipal market on Circus Street. For details of this and all other events at this year's Brighton Fringe click here.
