Ipswich Town arrive at the American Express Community Stadium this weekend and will be looking for their first win on Brighton & Hove Albion soil since 1989.
The Tractor Boys almost achieved their first away victory over the Seagulls last year thanks to Daryl Murphy’s first-half strike but Will Buckley rescued Brighton with a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw.
Town’s first visit to the Amex in 2012 ended in a heavy 3-0 defeat thanks to Craig Mackail-Smith’s early goal and Ashley Barnes’s brace.
The 1-1 draw in May 2005 was the most memorable of the three as Adam Virgo’s 10th minute strike kept Mark McGhee’s Albion in the Championship on the final day of the season.
Ipswich’s last win at Brighton was the aforementioned 1989 clash when the Tractor Boys won 1-0, giving them back-to-back away wins against the Seagulls following a 2-1 win in 1987.
The two clubs first ever meeting at the Goldstone Ground was in 1939 where Albion won 2-0, and it took Ipswich until 1953 to claim their first win at Brighton’s original home.
The biggest winning margin was by five goals and was achieved by Albion in 1949 in a 6-1 triumph.
