Albion host Premier League side Hull City on Monday in the fifth round of the FA Cup, a stage the club has only reached five times in the last 30 years.
Of those five occasions, Brighton have only been victorious twice. In 1983 Jimmy Melia’s side dispatched Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield on their way to the final thanks to goals from Gerry Ryan and Jimmy Case.
Albion made the fifth round again the very next season, but suffered a 3-1 defeat at Watford in 1984, with Danny Wilson on target from the spot.
In 1986 the Seagulls’ fifth-round tie with Peterborough finished 2-2 at a snowbound London Road with goals from Dean Saunders and Steve Jacobs. Saunders was on target again in the replay as Albion won 1-0 at the Goldstone, but they couldn’t overcome Southampton in the quarter-finals.

LuaLua was the last man to score for Albion on the FA Cup fifth round
Most recently, in 2012, after disposing of Newcastle United in the fourth round, Brighton endured a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Kenny Dalglish’s Liverpool – Kazenga LuaLua giving the Seagulls hope at*Anfield before the Premier League side proved too strong for Albion.
A year earlier, eventual finalists Stoke City had knocked the Seagulls out at the Britannia Stadium with a convincing 3-0 victory.
However, heading into Monday nights’ game Albion boast an impressive home record in the competition, having lost just one of their last 11 FA Cup games - winning six and drawing four.*
