What I find fun about it now is that it has gone full circle on it's humour.

Previously it was mostly reality with some funny scripted bits.

Now, as it's 99% scripted, the funnier bits are almost the parts which are completely natural. I probably laughed the most when Hammond COMPLETELY destroyed his car by putting it into first instead of 3rd. The laughter by Jeremy and May is so pure that it gets me :lolol:.

Anyway, I really enjoyed it.

Caught up with this last night. Can't say I'll be recording or making a point of watching the next one, all in all disappointing and more childish than usual. Shame as I think that there is definitely a market for a more mature car show somewhere between the offerings of the current Top Gear and Fifth Gear.

Fifth Gear do reviews of Clios and Cortinas if that's what people want.

It's also as dull as dishwater

Exactly. I remember Top Gear from the 1980's with Frank Page and Chris Goffey. FML that was boring "Tonight we have a review of the new Astra diesel, a feature on fuel economy and we test several different cassette players"

They still make Cortinas? Blimey, are they put together under licence in Mexico or India?

Bunch of miserable gits on here. Is hating top gear the new "I don't watch England play anymore" lol

not so much hating as being disappointed with how stupid it is now. Did you watch the crap about 80's hot hatches, with the oh so hilarious clip of Hammond banging the passenger door into one of the other cars AGAIN and the mind numbingly stupid race around a supermarket followed by moustache jokes? More moronic than amusing.

Turkey actually until1994 though badged as a Taunus like the it was in the rest of Europe.

Very popular still in Argentina , especially the coupe version which we never got over here.

Maybe Leo has one back home.

Trouble was the decent 80's hot hatches like the XR3i and 205 GTi are worth a fortune now so what they did have was all the crap. Ok , the MK 2 Golf was ok but was the Nova ever known as a hot hatch? Crap hatch maybe.

And that Fiesta was from the 90's and like the 90's Escort MK 5 it was pile of shit.

Good point, I did wonder why they didn't feature a 205 ( being the ultimate hot hatch in 1.9 litre form imo) or even an Alfasud but even so they paid between £700 and £800 for those absolute heaps of shite that they did feature????

Here it is in Mk III guise.

MK 2 Golf will have some value but May & Hammond were well ripped off.

I remember back in the early 90's Clarkson did a series called Motorworld, in those days he ego wasn't as big and he was a pretty decent motoring journalist on a proper motoring programme.

One thing is for sure no one at the Beeb has ever got away with what he has done and kept his job. Just shows even in the public sector money talks. His pension pot I suspect will be a significant part of national debt.

I like Top Gear a lot, a bit of harmless fun on a Sunday night!

Last night's episode wasn't quite up to par though but watchable.

Yep, it was a little bit too silly in places but perfectly watchable.

I remember when I was a kid and hated it when my dad put Top Gear on, I couldn't get excited by Quentin Willson giving tips on buying used cars.

I can imagine, do not remember though as I'm only an ignorant teenage boy!

I have sat through a few episodes Fifth Gear and found it disastrously dull compared to Top Gear. The banter between Jeremy, James and Richard can be absolutely priceless at times too making it so much better than it actually is. Fifth gear will always be in TG's shadow.

Have you seen the Vietnam special? That was fantastic television and part of the "golden period" of top gear in my opinion, when it was really good for about 4 seasons between season 9ish and 13ish. After that it did go slightly downhill but is still watchable (for now).

After allm it is getting 300m viewers worldwide so it is doing something right!

Loving that Taunus - I had a K reg Mk3 with a Capri sport rocket box.. loved it.. Lent it to someone, and he wrote it off.. :(

The Nova Sport was a rare but worthy hot hatch - 502 made, twin 40's, hot cam, Speed block graphics..

Last nights programme was pretty lame in comparison to others IMO.
