He's been a solid Champ midfielder who attracted some interest from Aston Villa couple of years ago. Would be a good acquistion to replace Crofts this season and then they can battle it out next season. Only doubt is whether he's still homesick, otherwise if not get him in.

A couple of days ago.....reports at the weekend they were interested.

Stoke also linked a couple of weeks back.

Must have something about him

I really would have hoped for better than this.

As you've clearly seen much more of Dale Stephens than I have, can you inform us all of his attributes and where you feel he will not be a good signing for us?

Is it that you feel his positional sense in the final third is lacking and, perhaps, he does not quite see the pass early enough?

Or is it that perhaps you feel he does not stay with the runner when the team is exposed to a counter attack?

I'd love to know your in-depth analysis.

Sounds great. But, has anyone pointed out to him that "we are Brighton, Super Brighton, FROM THE SOUTH.."?

I wouldn't jump on his back if we sign him, just would have hoped for a more proven player or a more exciting prospect. Doesn't seem like we are in a bidding war for his services but you never know Manchester Utd are very discrete.

Would be delighted with this. Young player with a lot of potential. Charlton fans seemed gutted. Straight replacement for Crofts.

Hi all,

Charlton fan here.

First off, it sadly (for us) sounds as though Stephens may be close to joining you. Our local journo tweeted this not long ago: https://twitter.com/RichCawleySLP/status/428192995293544449 https://twitter.com/RichCawleySLP/status/428194307020193793

I think he'd be a great player for a side like Brighton ie a good passing side whose pitch isn't a mess.

He's been our player of the season so far. He can drift in and out of games but he's improved massively this season and is very creative.

Here are his best goals for us: http://bit.ly/1b0FaqM http://bit.ly/1mRR9Js http://bit.ly/1f7zegi

Here are his best assists for us: http://bit.ly/1f7Ealr http://bit.ly/1ev21Ze http://bit.ly/1k1n1LU

I desperately hope this transfer doesn't go through, but I fear it will. That's what happens when you don't bother offering your best players new contracts!

Trouble with these more proven players is they cost a lot of money, you know that. I'm afraid to say the wages they want are way out of our league too. Who knows this player might be excellent. Sounds like a replacement for Crofts, which is what we need at the moment. If he can crack them in like Crofts what more do we need.
